Sheik’s demeanor flickered with the defined edge of annoyance as he paused his idle walk along the shore, true expression never surfacing as more than a lap of ripples throughout his tone. “You have it all wrong, Hero.” Terribly wrong, the fairy boy probably didn’t even know what he was saying. Sheik, afraid? Nonsense. The very concept of such a lowly emotion managing to harbor itself within Sheik, or any Sheikah for that matter, was as preposterous as much as it was filthy. “I don’t hide behind my mask from fear or-”

“But you do –hide-, Sheik. That’s all I’m really saying.” Blowing at the blond bangs that insisted on settling before his line of sight, Link grinned impishly at the minute narrowing of the other youth’s scarlet eyes. He was beginning to annoy the Sheikah, which wasn’t a surprise considering the two had been traveling together for miles now and Link had yet to speak about anything other than Sheik’s garb.

“Your insistence is tiring, Hero.”

“And your introversion is adorable.” Gaining the upper hand for the moment, because Sheik certainly hadn’t been expecting that statement and was stunned quiet with thought, Link smiled and paced toward the other youth, peering up at Sheik with amusement. “I was being polite. Now it’s your turn, let me see?” Link didn’t have to elaborate on the request because he made a motion that signaled it clearly, pretending to move down an invisible obstruction from his face with quite a bit of difficulty.

“Link…”

“Sheik…”

For a moment they stood there in silence, watching each other and wishing the other would simply give in so they could continue their travel and hope to arrive at their destination by morning. Sheik knew he could simply turn around and walk away, and as mandated by the Princess, The Hero of Time would follow, and more than likely sulk or continue to pester him.

Somehow that didn’t appeal to Sheik, at all.

“Will you leave it alone for good if I let you see this once?”

Link’s expression brightened considerably in an instant, a slight nod of his head following as he received a calculating stare in turn.

“Then as you wish, Hero.” And Sheik would have lowered the cloth except before he was finished speaking Link had drawn just a sliver closer and held up his hand to stop him.

Smiling oddly at the Sheikah, Link lightly drew the obstruction downward with a finger and appraised the mouth that had done so much for him in the past. By telling him of impending dangers and keeping him company with wise conversation, of course. Anything else had time yet to develop as they did have quite a few miles to go. “I was wrong; you’re not adorable at all…” He didn’t bother to clarify further though and drew away, leaving the confused Sheikah to cover up as he wished before they began to walk again.

Satisfied grin in place, Link knew for certain he would be pestering Sheik for another look in the very near future.
