Description The Korean War, was the first war to see the wide spread use of the helicopter. For the first time in the history of war and the history of field medicine, a seriously wounded soldier who made it to a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital alive, had almost a 90% chance of survival once he received treatment.

The Bell 47 Sioux Helicopter was a key factor in this amazing survival rate. The small fast nimble little chopper, could swoop into a battlefield landing zone and pluck several severely wounded soldiers from the battlefield and have them to front line MASH units in a matter of minutes!
This illustration shows my dad during the Korean War, sitting on the skid of an 8th Army Bell 47 Helicopter at the 121st EVAC Hospital near Seoul South Korea.

the glass looks absolutely superb. and all the detail of the engine / structure of the helicopter.

you have to be the best photorealistic vector artist I know of.

Thanks man! I really agonized over the glass, there wasn't much to work with in the reference photo, except a bunch of sun glare, so I faked it, I'm glad you like the way it turned out.

That's quite a compliment, thanks! I'm not ready to take on the title of "best" just yet, but it reminds me of a report I saw on the Playboy channel years ago about an artist in New York city who claimed the be "The World's Greatest Artist"! He came by the title of "The World's Greatest Artist" by process of elimination. What he would do, is go up to people and ask them if they were "The World's Greatest Artist"? Of course they would say no, so by process of elimination, he determined that he was in fact "The World's Greatest Artist"!

The funny thing about it was that he was actually pretty good at what he did, but he only painted one thing, he would paint it differently each time, over and over, different colors, different sizes, different shapes... in different media. He even did wood carvings and stone sculptures, but it was always the same thing, he only did artwork of the vagina.

Nice job, again, great details! Just dawned on me... you're using Illy8 so that helicopter glass transparency look was done manually as I don't think there was any transparency back in 8 was there? If that's the case very impressive indeed!

Thanks! Yep, no transparency in AI 8. It gets a little complicated, plus everything was washed out in the reference photo, I had to fake most of it. I have AI 9 and my kids have CS, but I haven't tried working with new versions.

After planes trains and dames, all we need was a chopper! Your artwork is very characteristic, indeed it is, the Mercedes Benz of vector art!

Best Wishes

Thanks Ahmed! I'll have to amend the list to Bikes, Trains, Planes, Dames & Choppers. Oh and let's not forget JEEPs! Did you notice the one hiding behind the tail section in front of the Quonset huts?
