Description Last night when I left the 57 Center, I forgot my trusty S5200 at my work station. Fortunately I had a backup in my briefcase. This Jeep was parked at Station Square in Pittsburgh and I snapped a few shots.

I used a really cool grunge brush that I downloaded from: :icon ro-stock: [link] Some really amazing stuff.

I had a 1965 CJ5, it wasn't much for creature comforts, but it was fun. I've owned 8 Jeeps, I still have numbers 5, 7 & 8, a '95 YJ, 04 Liberty and a 03 TJ. IMO the YJ Wrangler is the best of both worlds between the CJs and the TJs. I haven't driven one of the new ones yet, but I like my YJ the best, it drives like a old Jeep CJ, but has better creature comforts.

I've had a 1977 Jeep cherokee and wasn't impressed with it, I had a good friend who had a 1970ish CJ5 and I flippin loved that thing because it seemed you could take it in some nice spots off road. Then also I just like sticks lol and most of em are sticks so I'm good with that.

Chris, I've had a CJ5 Tuxedo Park Mk IV (4cyl), CJ7 Levi edition (V8), Scrambler pickup (4cyl), Cherokee 2 door (4cyl), Grand Cherokee Limited (straight 6), Wrangler (4cyl) and a Liberty (V6). The CJ5 was good in the woods, but slow on the road, the CJ7 was good on the road, but not so good in the woods, the rest I never took off road. The Scrambler was a cool little truck and the 2 door Cherokee was cool. I really liked the '95 Grand Cherokee Limited, it was wicked fast and loaded, it was $35,000 so it should have been nice and it was. I still have the Wrangler, it was the last of the square headlight models it's a 1995 YJ, 4 cyl 5 speed, rag top, I love it, it's fun to drive, it has 180,000 miles on it and still running strong. I'll probably never get rid of it, but I'd like to buy a TJ Wrangler, maybe an '05, they ride a little smoother. The Liberty is an '04, it's a real runner, but a serious gas hog, but fun to drive. I'm not too thrilled with the new Wranglers, they just seem too big and bulky, that's not how a jeep should be, they should be small and nimble. Did you drive any Jeeps in the USAF?

Don... I've never done more that test drive them. And I hate to say it but I don't think a Cherokee or a Liberty are "real" Jeeps. Small a nimble... yup... not much longer than they are wide or tall... LOL.
Only thing I ever drove in the USAF was a duece-and-a-half (OMG, double clutching).

If you really want the feel of the original Jeep, small and nimble, leaf springs, rough ride, rag top, with some modern improvements like PS, PB, 5 speed and fun to drive, I highly recommend the Jeep Wrangler YJ, built from 1987-95. Like I mentioned the TJ Wranglers 1997-06 have a smoother ride, they have coil springs, they are still keeping with the original concept, but with more creature comforts. Also if you are lucky enough to find a CJ5 or CJ7 that hasn't been modified or monkeyed with too much, buy it! The Cherokees and Liberty Jeep appeal to a different a demographics than the Wrangler and are more family oriented and better suited highway travel, but I have seen a few radical Cherokees and Liberty Jeeps that would make any hard core CJ, YJ or TJ owner nod their approval. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a Jeep.
That double clutching had to be a pain.
