Description KCR EMD G12, No.51 Sir Alexander is one of Kowloon Canton Railway's first diesel locomotive to be introduced. Built in Australia in 1955 Clyde Engineering with his sister locomotive, Lady Maurine, these diesels were gradually replaced the old steam locos by 1962 with 3 more G12s and 4 G16s through the 1950s and 60s.
After KCR was electrified in 1982, Sir Alexander and Lady Maurine pulled their last diesel-hauled passenger train as a special, and for the remaining working life with the other diesels, they were used for hauling freight, maintenance train and shunting.
Sir Alexander was finally retired from service in 1997, he was restored in his original livery and appearance in 2004 and was donated to the Hong Kong Railway Museum.
The remaining G12s were all retired, they were bought and shipped to Australia's CFCL

Interesting locomotive -- I don't know much about Hong Kong's railway history, so thanks for sharing this!
