Description Drawn for a friend . She asked for Ichijou tied up and crying, and of course I can’t ignore a request like that. Tried a shinier coloring style for fun. ...My whole gallery is just bondage and kidnapping stuff now, isn't it? You can tell I've just been drawing what I like to draw the most lately haha. Sorry, fkmt fandom.

Oh I love the new coloring style! It especially works for Ichijou's attire.Β

It's sad when they're all tear-stained. Or not, depending on your view of things. (oops lol)

Haha really though, yeah. Ichijou is my favorite character, I think he's so fascinating, and in a way I think he's even more tragic than Kaiji. But I always mess with characters that I like. So I feel very torn, since I want him to be happy, but I also want to draw him getting fucked up haha. Haha... ha...

I admire Ichijou's ambition and I understand why he has to step on people, but it's also painful to see, especially when he's making Kaiji suffer. It's the reality of the world and that's one thing I love about FKMT's works so much. His characters are complex but not in a "boot to the head" pretentious way and he makes you both love and hate them.Β

Besides Hyodo. Everyone hates Hyodo.

The thing about Ichijou is that he is certainly tragic. You could make the argument that he wouldn't be so fucked up if people hadn't treated him in such a fucked up manner. But that doesn't excuse his actions at all. And it CERTAINLY doesn't make it okay that he took actual pleasure from physically torturing Kaiji. Ichijou is very sad, but he's also very morally bankrupt on his own. Whether or not he would have been so sadistic if people hadn't been so cruel to him isn't the point because he has control over his actions and still chooses to do it. And for that reason I just find him so fascinating... And for a lot of others reasons too haha. His incredible lust for power and prestige just completely blinds him to how he treats others to get it.

Everyone hate Hyoudou haha.

I totally agree. He is a fun character to analyze! I'd like to know more about Kaiji's past and why he ended up with a gambling addiction. We know he has a mother and sister, but Endou doesn't mention his dad in the first episode where we learn about Kaiji's family. Ichijou is Kaiji's foil; instead of fostering camaraderie, he follows his own path and destroys anyone in his way. I'd love to see him break out of the underground and exact revenge. Imagine what a power team Kazuya and Ichijou would be! I think even old man Hyoudou could respect that, lol.Β

Actually it says that Kaiji's dad passed away when he was young. But I think Kaiji's gambling addiction is just purely due to his own personality. He doesn't like to work yet wants large sums of money (though I don't think he truly wants that, he just wants it because society tells him to want it), and he's now surrounded by the Teiai crowd so a gambling addiction is natural. He can't break out of it because he can't see any other way.

But yes, Ichijou is Kaiji's foil. They're both terrorized by Teiai and both want the same sort of goal, but unlike Kaiji, Ichijou is extremely ambitious. He works hard for it, whatever means necessary. He's dedicated and motivated and will push through people to get what he wants while Kaiji is the opposite. I just love Ichijou so much, he's so fascinating, and I love his and Kaiji's personality clash. Ichijou would get out of the underground so fast, he has so much more willpower than Kaiji haha, he would DESTROY Ohtsuki and get the furlough in a month haha. This is one of my favorite pictures: 31.media.tumblr.com/fedbc5ec3a… so badass... don't fuck with ichijou

I like to imagine that Hyoudou made Ichijou babysit Kazuya when he was younger haha. Ichijou and Kazuya probably know each other.

Ah, I didn't know that! Was it in the manga? I watched the anime first then read some of the manga. I'm behind a bit with the current arc though. :c Some people do have addictive personalities and his father's death could've exacerbated that. A big problem is socialization too, and Fukumoto expertly analyzes Japanese society and society in general, which I love.Β

That picture of Ichijou is AMAZING. I definitely can imagine him getting out of there quite quickly as well. I'm not sure how old Ichijou and Kazuya are supposed to be, because I know Kaiji is in his mid 20s at this point. In season 1 he was 20, since he was older than Sahara.Β

No, it says so in the first episode of the anime (but in the manga as well obviously). But yeah I think it's sort of interesting that Kaiji's only real 'friends' were Sakazaki and Endou, both older men. He didn't seem to like Sahara as much as them even though he was his own age. Maybe Kaiji has daddy issues haha.

But Kaiji was 21 when the series began, he's either 22 or 23 now in Kazuya-Hen if you do the math.

I take so long to reply to comments on DA lol.

Oh don't worry, I take at least eight thousand years to reply as well, lol. I couldn't remember his exact age. Man it feels like forever since I've watched the series. I'm getting rusty! I should re-watch it sometime. Β

Yes! Akagi is one of my favorites. I have to read Ten, Zero, and Gai still. I can't find much Gin to Kin, or at least I couldn't, but if there are some more chapters available I'll definitely pick it up.
