cool... just the paint brush or with the pen tool? the wrinkles in the hands obviously don't look like the pen tool though.

None actually, what I did was first clean the parts that should be white with the pen tool on the drawing, then I made layers one after the other and put them pn Multiply. I did the same with the Hichigo drawing. If you haven't seen it yet then don't look at it, major spoiler from the Ulquiorra vs Ichigo fight.

cleaning up is one thing, but if you're just trying to get it to be darker and more contrast, you can always use levels instead of multiply and layer upon layer.

I wanted it to look more like it would look in a manga. But thanks for reminding me about that, works very well on drawings that don't have that much shading.
