Well, welcome back . . . drawing mode is hard to stay in. It's often impeded by, uh, insomnia, as you seem to have currently. xD Don't worry, I have it too. lol

ah insomnia, how lovely of you to drop by OTL
At least schools almost over. Then it won't matter if sleep is achieved pffffftt//

Oh, what job are you planning on getting? Or wanted to get? I'm just doing some make-up school work, so no jobs here. xD It sounds like a good idea though. Do something a little more productive for once. xD

Yeah, it's either a job or community service since I feel like "getting active" this summer lol. I'm applying for the typical waitress/food runner sort of things. I think a cafe would be pretty snazzy heh X3 Then there was a long shot at a framing place, but they don't need help until september. Boo >__<

Ah, interesting, interesting. Well do tell me if you get one, whether it be a waitress, a food runner, a snazzy cafe waitress job, or a framer if even possible. lol I mean, doing something is always fun. More fun than doing nothing anyway. lol

So far so... not good OTL I got a reply to one of the emails I sent out and they're said they'd call me, but they didn't lol.
I think I'm just going to open a doll faceup business. It's something I like doing and want to do for a while anyway, so might as well start now you know haha

madelly In reply to Yay-123 [2013-06-25 19:45:46 +0000 UTC]

lol Well hope for the best!

Isn't it sort of difficult to create craft businesses though? Like I checked online before for the amount of money crafters usually make on etsy, and only a small percentage, I think like less than 10% of the active shop owners even made much money at all. And I think "making much money at all" was approximately 1000 dollars profit every year. Most of the big sellers on etsy were big businesses who took advantage of the "small crafter, homemade" allure of etsy and sold products in bulk, thus making quite a profit, overtaking small sellers and stealing their customers. I don't know. Sounds sort of risky to me, especially if the way etsy works translates to sellers who operate offline, which it probably does to some extent. I mean, it wouldn't be impossible to make a living on this stuff, it would just be difficult, very difficult. xD
But then again, this probably applies to most businesses. Arts and crafts are an especially tricky business though.

Oh I hear ya, that why I'm starting so early lol. You have to really build up a reputation to make a good profit from doll face ups, so I'm hoping it'll pay off in the future. I'm probably going to stray away from etsy, and maybe advertise on the popular forum for dolls and work with self promotion and maybe even pay for advertising, depending on a lot of variables. They have a specific section for these types of things, and from what i get from that site also, is that a lot of people would rather commissions someone else rather than doing it them selves. So they're may be a larger market for the type of art that I'm thinking of.
Of course, I'd love to go to conventions one day and sell drawn prints like so many artists here, but that seems so far away.

Well sounds like a decent plan, provided everything pans out. I agree though, if there is some sort of risk situation you want to go into, you better analyze and plan beforehand. lol None of us are going to be the next Warren Buffet, so better be careful. That would be so awesome if that actually does work though, you never know. I wonder how many people are actually looking to purchase (faceups?) though. If so few people are purchasing art already, than how large can the customer base for this specialty be? It's probably fairly expensive too. xD

By the way, have you done any faceups? If you have, I would love to see. It seems really interesting.

And the convention thing seems like fun. I don't ever plan to go to one though, since they seem to be very anime/manga based. The direction I want my art to go into probably wouldn't fit too well into these categories. The amount of effort required to even participate in the first place is already very notable too. What do you think? In my opinion, these kind of events are better investments for the "pros", or established artists.

Yay-123 In reply to madelly [2013-07-02 16:01:53 +0000 UTC]

Faceups are surprisingly wanted if you're good enough XD It's more like you have to build a reputation, but that comes with time. When you do get recognized more though, the prices can be well up into the $100 just for one doll head. I've been doing faceups on my doll to practice on and hope I'll be good enough but late july or august. I'll probably make a new account to post them

As for cons, I agree that they're more for pros. If you're intermediate, you definitely won't make as much as them. Plus tables, your ticket, and the cost of making the prints/keychains/various goods is a pretty big investment.

madelly In reply to Yay-123 [2013-07-02 17:44:36 +0000 UTC]

Really? Interesting. But that's true with most things though, build a good reputation, and you'll get where you need to be eventually. xD The problem is that reputation doesn't come easily. lol I feel like its more of a luck thing than anything. And cool, I'll be waiting for the update.

Yeah, it's just too much money to spend if you aren't known well enough for cons to be a good investment. lol Why are the things abbreviated that way anyway? (con) Reminds me of robbers and con men. lol

Yay-123 In reply to madelly [2013-07-04 02:02:52 +0000 UTC]

That's always in the back of my head! It's like:
Me: mom can I go to this "con"
mom: a what??
me: a convention, mom, a convention!

Technically all the people in the artist alley are "con artists" lol XDD

madelly In reply to Yay-123 [2013-07-04 02:15:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that's true. They all con you out of your money. Though I guess most buyers would be willing participants of the system. xD "Brainwash me please!"

By the way, is the whole mom thing just hypothetical? Have you ever been to a con?

Yay-123 In reply to madelly [2013-07-04 02:29:49 +0000 UTC]

I went to comic con last year :3 It was fun, and I want to go again this year with some sort of get up though. I went in normal clothes last time with family and a freind just for the eperience of a first time con, but I want to do something with the lolita fashion this year~ I'm not really into anime anymore, but vocaloid has a big presence and plus, I love superheros and all the cool things they have there. I only went for a day, but that was enough for me. Honestly, unless there was a to-die-for panel on a different day, i doubt I would go for the entire span of the convention anyways = w =

madelly In reply to Yay-123 [2013-07-08 11:41:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh cool. Well its probably an interesting experience for anyone who goes. Vocaloid and superheroes aren't bad motivations. xD Vocaloids are awesome for the technological progression they represent and superheroes, are well super. lol I guess they are just cool figures that a common population can enjoy. Lolita fashion is pretty interesting as well. I like the whole goth/sweet (pink lolita? lol) look that has been trending. You can't go wrong with pink, black, lace and trims. lol By the way, what type of lolita are you talking about? xD

I really like sweet lolita haha. Sweet, classic, and country lolita are my favourites. I'm going to go to California for vacation and I'm hoping to go to one of the lolita stores there to buy a dress~ I'm so excited Cx
Do you have a favorite type of lolita?

Not really. I think they all are very pretty. I guess its just depends on individual taste. :3 Oh California dress hunting? Sounds fun.
