In the manga universe, Yugi and Kaiba were 17. In the DSoD Seto becomes 18, while Yami Yugi is supposed to be ‘fixed’ at 17, because he's gone then. However, for the virtual duel with Atem’s hologram, Kaiba sets Yami’s age to 18 and his name ‘Yugi Mutou.’ You can find it on the virtual display during the match. Yami could’ve continued to live with the name and get 1 year older like Seto.
He needs the feeling that Yami is living. He wants to live with Atem, and grow old with Atem, in this world.

Honestly, when Yugi put the last pieces into the puzzle and told him that Atem was no longer there, Kaiba seriously looked like he was about to cry. In a strange way, it almost affected him the most. Yugi, despite missing him terribly, was able to let him go but Kaiba just couldn't. I don't ship them as a pairing, but their bond is certainly undeniable however you interpret their relationship.
I didn't even notice the age thing during their hologram duel. I gotta go look at that again.
