this is amazing... the contrast of form, of light reflection, of size, and of sharpness all make magic.

The lens was an old manual focus 135mm Soligor 2.8 lens. It is a Nikon mount, but I use an adapter to fit it on my Canon Camera.

I can not remember if I used a doubled (x2) extension tube on it. It I did, then the lens would be 270mm 5.6F.

There is also a crop factor of 1.6x provided my by camera's smaller CCD sensor(smaller than 35mm).

When lens do you have?

The hard part of the moon is the exposure. It is shocking bright.

A trick is to shoot it just as it is rising or setting. (It is the largest in the sky during these times)

The cheapest way to increase your lens collection is to buy older manual focus lens and adapt them to your camera.

This is very easy to do, as adapters are sold for most kinds of lens to make them fit unto your camera.

The adapters come in two styles. One is Focus confirming, these are more expensive but have the electronics to light up the red dots in the view finder when an area is in focus. (Like when you use your current lens in MF mode) I personally think they are worth the extra cost.

You need to use the Camera in A, or M mode to get the most out of these lens. Fully Automatic exposure will not work as the camera can not set the F-stop automatically, but it can adjust the shutter speed so A priority mode works best.

The lens used to take this picture cost me $20, the adapter was about $50(Focus confirming) but it is easily transferable to other lens with the same mount...by easy I mean as easy as removing and replacing your current lens.

My favorite mount to adapt to is called "M42" or "Pentax Screw Mount."

If you wanted to find one of these adapters just search google for EOS mount adapters.

One warning, some lens mounts will not adapt correctly to give you infinity focus or use a lens in the adapter to achieve infinite focus. SKIP THESE ADAPTERS AND THERE MOUNTS.

Mount Adapters I would recommand:

EOS to M42 mount
EOS to Olympus OM Mount
EOS to Nikkon F mount <--This is the only one that it is a little hard to remove and attach it to another lens because it is super thin and there is not a lot to hold one to when you want to remove it from the lens.
