"Tom, are you crazy? There is no way I'm spending six weeks of my life being a counselor at a theater camp!" Alex yelled as Tom pushed him to the train station.
"Come on Alex. I already told them you would do it," said Tom soothingly.
"You are such an ass Tom Milsom," Alex shouted.
"Now, now, Alex that is not camper appropriate language," Tom scolded grinning evilly as Alex glared at him. Alex was silent the rest of the way there. Tom ended up having to drag him down the street to the camp.
When they got inside the head counselor, Heather, waved and yelled, "Hey, Tom!" While Tom said hello to his friends Alex glanced around at the big room that contained about twenty kids. One shy little brunette approached him suspiciously and said, "Why are you wearing pink pants?" Alex replied with a grin, "Why are you wearing not pink pants?" The kid blushed and then looked up shyly. Suddenly he tapped Alex's arm yelling, "New counselor's it!" The children all scattered and Alex chased after them.
Tom looked up from his conversation with Heather to see Alex under a pile of children cracking up. Tom grinned he knew Alex, for all his bitching, was great with kids. At that moment Alex looked up into Tom's eyes and Tom got the sensation of butterflies in the pit of his stomach. Tom turned away restarting the conversation with Heather.
The rest of the day was a blur. The Heather announced that they would be putting on a production of Wizard of Oz and that they would start casting soon. Tom watched proudly as Alex made friends with everyone and taught the campers that his name was Alex not "New Counselor".
Both Tom and Alex were totally exhausted at the end of the day. On the train Alex leaned against Tom's shoulder and went to sleep. Tom looked down at the beautiful boy leaning on him. He looked more relaxed than Tom had ever seen him and Tom was spellbound with each curve of Alex's delicate face. 'I must be more tired than I think' Tom thought to himself. He leaned his head against Alex's puffy hair and watched for their stop.
When the train arrived and Tom gently woke Alex. Alex yawned and then grinned an evil thought coming to mind, "Tom, you made me do this and tired me out so I believe it is your responsibility to carry me the one block to my flat." Tom groaned as he walked up to the sidewalk and then bent over. Alex cheered and then leapt onto Tom's back. Tom walked to the flat and walked up the stairs. He then knocked on the door, which Charlie answered with a slightly shocked expression. He carried Alex to his bedroom and dumped him on the bed, "See you at six thirty tomorrow morning, Alex," Tom grinned. Alex stuck out his tongue and then buried under the covers going to sleep instantly. Tom smiled gently then left the room turning off the lights and closing the door.
Charlie was waiting for him outside and said in a whisper, "Why don't you just tell him already?"
"Tell him what?" Tom asked a little too innocently.
"Tom, we all know you're in love with him." Tom sighed and nodded.
The weeks of camp flew by. The kids and counselors worked really hard. They practiced lines, sang songs and built the set. No one was happier than Alex and Tom who thrived from teaching the kids and each other's company.
Finally the night of the performance arrived. Alex and Tom were backstage left making sure the kids went on at the right time and didn't suffer to badly from stage fright. As all the kids went onstage for the last number Tom pulled Alex aside.
"'Lex I have something to tell you. I think I may be in love."
"That's great Tom. With who?" outside Alex smiled but inside he was saying oh shit I don't have a chance.
"You," Tom whispered blushing deeply.
Alex had to restrain his yell of joy as he rapped his arms around the taller boy and said, "I love you too, Tom."
Tom gently kissed Alex pulling him deeper into the wings where the children wouldn't see. Alex pulled back slightly, "Now, now, Tom keep it camper appropriate." Tom grinned as Alex kissed him on the nose. Then they turned Tom's arm around Alex and Alex's head resting on Tom's chest to watch their campers take bows.
