Description Aaron is applying to college. This is for the Rhode Island School of Design. They have an extra assignment as part of the portfolio, you must draw a bike, or a representation of a bike, an interior exterior space, and a free choice. All 16x20 inches, and in pencil.

this is the bike drawing, and that is my goodfriend Ryan Till, who is perhaps one of the most amazing artists I know, i'de direct you to see some of his work but he has no online portfolio.

enjoy

i'm finishing my finals right now for my first semester at Pratt. I chose Pratt because it's got a better Industrial design program, is located in Brooklyn, slightly less expensive, and had a less stuck up attitude than what I got from RISD from going to all the portfolio reviews and everything

Oh yeah. I have friends who want to do Industrial design there! I want to do fashion design....

Ah yes that clasic snobby attitude of RISD....

Any tips on what to put in a portfolio for Pratt? I'll be aplying there as well.

Yeah the Industrial Design department and teachers here are amazing. For the portfolio tips I don't really know, I have most of what I submitted in my gallery right now. What I think helped me was that I applied on a portfolio day and I was able to talk with the reviewers and really get my point across. I checked your gallery and your work seems pretty strong.

I hear that the fashion program at pratt won't get you as far as it might at a school like Parsons, or FIT. have you thought about those?

Yeah FIT and FIDM are not what I'm looking for. They're cheap trade school that will accept ANYONE and are just there to crank people out into the industry with no skills....I went to a portfolio day and was really sickend by FIDM...

I want to go to a 4 year university for the experience and the knowlege that I'll get out of getting my BFA rather than some 2 year degree.

Thanks! Yeah I've talked to a girl at the Pratt table on a portfolio day and I've gotta say she wasn't too helpful at all...she just said oh yeah I like your figure drawings and that I should do some big watercolor fashion illustrations? It was bad...

Really? Yeah I guess I havn't really heard the best things about Pratt's fashion program but I figure I might as well try out...

I think as far as getting a good fashion education plus getting good ties and internships in the industry Parsons and Otis are my best bets.

Yeah. Hey do you know Iris Fong by any chance? She's in architecture. She went to school at LACHSA with me...hmmm I'm trying to think of other people from my school that go to Pratt now... Oh well! Can't think of anyone elese!

ohhh I didn't know FIT wasn't a 4 year school, sorry I don't know too much about the fashion schools, only what I hear from other people. I know the Fashion majors here all seem REALLY happy a lot of the time haha, but that might just be their nature... no sorry I don't really know any architecture students, i'm in the foundation section and I don't see too many people outside of it haha.

Doesnt sound too bad though for you're portfolio review. It's not supposed to be too in depth and she may not have known too much about what a fashion portfolio needs. At least it wasn't a quick thumb through and an "okay" by RISD. haha.

thanks man. I know i've tried to get him to make one a coupe times but he's a traditional artist and doesnt have too much digital work( big on painting) and just doesnt take the time to shoot things digitally. He is such a sick artist tho, extremely talented and will actually be going to pratt with me next year
