please read carefully what i wrote.
and it's my personal opinion only.
IF the owner of the original art says you have to remove it, then you have to. there's no discussion then.

Which Artist are you talking about? I want to talk some sense into him/her because copying without permission and credit is cowardly and uploading and claiming it as your own drawing is stealing.

I totally agree with you.Β Copying is totally fine privately or when you publish it AND credit it.

and in the best case (if it's a community artist) you have their permission to upload it.
some artists do not want their art being copied.

Β When I was younger, I got a machine where you could trace. I copied the pictures out of my Littlest Pet Shop Colouring Book, But My Sister said Copying is mean and cowardly.Β
But to this day, even though she is 4 years older than me, My art is better than hers. She knows it, she even said It once. It is also the reason why she calls me drawings stupid, and critiques everything on my drawing. You can tell a difference between our pieces. One is better than the other.Β
Tracing and copying helps you learn.Β
And hiding the comment? wow.....

Wow... Hiding the comment? Like that changes the fact that they're copying without permission >.>

not "changing" but it avoids that other people know it.
it's so strange people don't realize it because the original artist is quite popular on dA! xD

I hate seeing people redraw artwork from a favorite artist of mine, not crediting it.. Or plainly using a manga creation app and claiming they drew it >.>

Yenni-Vu In reply to lightningshinobi [2014-07-29 15:22:15 +0000 UTC]
omg, manga creation apps? xD
it's really not fair to claim other people's works as their own ones!

Yeah ^~^ I mean, seriously, there are people who will find out that it's not their work >.>

It is true, i was starting from copying. I have some works here on dA still and i am not ashamed of it. I credited the owners and was giving original photo, but it truly made me better in drawing and i liked it because i had such start. And your words are true and wise~~

Yenni-Vu In reply to MirajaneGosh [2014-07-28 22:44:55 +0000 UTC]
yeah, same here. i still have 2 or 3 copied works, properly credited and (if it was a dA artist) i asked for permission to upload it.
thank you!^^

I have been waiting for more journals like this one. Thank you.
May I post a link to this journal to compliment my journal for beginner artists?
It would specifically go in the section titled: "Tracing, Copying, and Mimicking ARE okay".

My art teacher is a person who believes copying, not tracing, helps. Every once in a while, she'll ask me to do a free draw, too see how much I've improved, and I found that copying helps ALOT

i'm no jurist but i think if you copy, do it only privately. so no selling and commercial use.

and if it's a dA artist or in general an artist you could message simply, ask them before. cause some artists disapprove being copied...

Yep, sure, the only problem is that most famous artists do not answer, due to the lack of time I guess.
