Description i woke up one morning and decided to teach myself mental ray. as an easy subject i used this old v-8 i made quite a while back.

for the 3d knowledgeable, yep, HDRI lighting is the stuff. i had a ton of renders of this engine and it looked like crap, its nice having a render that makes your work look better instead of having to struggle with it.. yay for technological progress that i can do this at home la la..

its suposta be a ford. not really based on a particular real one though, just a generic 70s ford. all the things that are "wrong" about it are to amuse myself and make it "art". goes in this truck i made..

It would be cooler to actually make an object that looks like that, then edit it a bit in photoshop. I make objects like that on my spare time.

Why is the distributor in the front? Looks like a Chevy small block, thus the distributor should be in back going through the intake manifold. There's usually a spot on the firewall where it partially sits under.

Other than that, though, it's a pretty decent render. I like how you've made it look like a futuristic museum piece on a column-type display.

Could be a Ford... they have front distributors AND the block is painted blue

But noone would want to model a Ford small block But yes, old school Fords had a somewhat similar engine color and had it up front.

This looks too similar to the 305 sitting under my Nova, though, so that's why I went with small-block Chevy.

True! I've got a 283 in my '60 Chevy

My buddy had a '64 1/2 Mustang and thats where I saw the shade of blue.

! Awsome. Really nice work. Great reflections. Bu I think the surface at the bottom ruins the mood a bit. Well but the aim is to learn, so no problem . Even the background looks great. How long did it take to render, and at what resolution?
