Description This is the Steampunk Orrery widget Mark II - version 5.2.6

5.2.6 - Fixed a problem with the moon widget appearing beneath the orrery on Windows 10. It is now made automatically visible by making the glass transparent.

5.2.4 & 5 Provided a lot more animation and extra functionality. Zipfile also contains some Icons... The inline help now fades gracefully, there is a new slider to control the ticking type (smooth/jerky) and some slight changes to the cog movements as well as a bug fix concerning cog movement.

It provides a daily memorandum function via a truly steampunk interface. Select a date via the calendar ring and click the date shown and it will allow you to enter a memo or reminder. You can use the ring to select future or past memos and whilst you are doing so the orrery will allow you to reflect on the passage of time and the true nature of this force that controls our lives. Well, you might...

The calendar ring rotates by mouse control, the date displays according to ring position. The inner earth and moon rotate, the moon around the earth. The earth rotates around the central glow, roughly following the track of the window circular frame. The inner wheel with lots of bolts, counter-rotates as the main calendar ring rotates. Clicking on the moon causes the moon to expand so that you can see the phases of the moon according to any date you choose. Clicking on the earth causes the earth to enlarge shoing you an image of the rotating earth. The widget is fully resizable for your desktop. Please let me know what you think of the new version of my orrery/calendar. If you like it, then feel free to leave a comment.

The original Yahoo widget orrery for Windows/Macs has lots of functionality all of it written in javascript - The second version was adapted to run on xwidgets on windows. Next was the rainmeter version - the first of our steampunk widgets to be adapted to a rainmeter widget also running on Windows. The third is the Linux KDE plasmoid here adapted for Linux/KDE using QML. Each version is slightly different adding/modifying functionality. The latest version, this one provides a lot more and you simply have to give it a go.

Running the widget in a javascript engine frees javascript from only running within the captivity of a browser, you will now be able to run these widgets on your Windows/Linux/Mac desktop as long as you have an engine installed.

On Windows the installation guide is simple, install yahoo widgets, extract the widget from the zipfile, double click on the .widget file and you are done!

You will, of course, need Yahoo widgets for this widget to run. Get Yahoo widget engine here.

and the Mac version here: desktopwidgets.zenfs.com/4.5.2…

This widget works with Windows XP SP3, it has been tested on Vista, Windows 7/8 and 10, even Mac Os/X so it should work on these with no problems.

To run this widget properly you will also need:

1. Steampunk Moon Phase III Widget here: yereverluvinuncleber.deviantar…
2. Steampunk Underwidget here: yereverluvinuncleber.deviantar…
3. You could also use one of my steampunk wallpapers to complete the job, get that here: yereverluvinuncleber.deviantar…

Do read the help for the widget - it is there in full and explains everything. The only thing you need to do is install then set the Orrery widget to be layered on top of the underwidget.

========================================================

Instructions for running Yahoo widgets on Mac OS/X, all recent versions including Sierra.

Edit the following file:

com.yahoo.widgetengine.plist which is in /Users/xxx/Library/Preferences. Look for these lines:    DockOpen
   false

Change to false if it is true.

Then you should be able to start Yahoo! Widgets and the menubar item should appear. Widgets can then be started from the menubar or by double-clicking them in the usual way.

========================================================

Note: The zipfile provided here contains the yahoo/konfabulator widget ready to install, a large PNG icon for Rocketdock/Objectdock, a Windows multiple-size .ICO file and a Mac OS/X .ICNS icon.

It didn't work for me, either, if the same as on the youtube video, but why do you want to bother. The widget is obtained by hitting the DOWNLOAD button above right.
HOWEVER, when I try to install it, I get two errors, first that the underlying widget is not found, second something about the moon widget missing, the error msg then diverts me to a web page with the message . The link from youtube is also empty (lightquick.co.uk/underwidget.h… ). OK, GOT IT. Don't bother with the URL links, but get the underwidget from the link above and install that FIRST, then do the same with the Moon widget, then finally install the main widget. That worked for me, just have to follow those directions. Now for the fun!  Looks wonderful.
