The coloring on the hair is very, very nice and it contrasts well with the background.

I tried this with a white bakground and the colors just didn't pop like i wanted them to so i decided on the black ;D

Yup yup, black was a great choice to add to this picture. The first time I full-viewed this image the hair just jumped at me and I was in love.
The pinks you used also work really well with the black, which I can already imagine how *waves hand around in some descriptive way* the white would have made them look.
