Description
Authui.dll for Vista RTM and Vista SP1

Copy authui.dll to %WinDir%\System32\

U need to have permision to do that..
ive added the Take Ownership.reg file Merge it,
to add easy Take Ownership to ur context menu..

browse to your Windows\system32\
look for authui.dll right click then Take Ownership.. Thats it!
now you can rename the original file to whatever name u want for restoration purposes..

copy the edited authui.dll to your Windows\System32
Enjoy and I hope you like it..

Don't know if I'm being ignored (many here do), you're WAY busy, or you have a different DeviantID, but I need either an SP2 version or explicit instructions (especially in the case of coding about which I know NOTHING) on how to use the SP1 resources with my SP2 authui.dll.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that mate!

Ok, the only thing u can do is system restore.
Insert your Vista DVD and boot from the DVD.
and do a system restore..

That happens coz ur authui.dll was renamed and windows cant find it, coz u havent copy any authui.dll in your system..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

And1roid In reply to yethzart [2008-08-12 07:34:47 +0000 UTC]

nono i made a backup of it in an other folder....system restore doesnt work unfortunately... ive a recovery cd but how can i copy the authui.dll from D: to system32 folder? ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

yethzart In reply to And1roid [2008-08-12 10:30:02 +0000 UTC]

boot in your Vista DVD and setup,
before you go to full install there's an option for Fix or something similar, id forgot it already..
and when you click that option, theres a command console,
use the command console and copy the authui.dll to your windows\system32 folder..

Hope that will help..

And1roid In reply to yethzart [2008-08-12 16:55:19 +0000 UTC]

whats ur os?

If ur using Vista then u probably installed the wrong version for ur OS..
Only u got a problem w/ this.. there are many downloads as i see, but doesnt post that they have a problem w/ it..

So, Please tell me what did you do or please tell me what procedure u tried. so that i can help you in anyway i can..

the pack contains the edited version for RTM(SP0) and for SP1..
and it also has an original untouched .dll for restoration purposes..

regards,
yethz

Glad to help

are u using SP1 or RTM?
and which authui.dll u are getting in pack? ( I mean which folder in the pack ur extracting?)

sp1, and im using the sp1 longhorn style......can u tell me the steps, like exactly what to do in order.....the directions included are kinda fuzzy to me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

yethzart In reply to dand2392 [2008-08-06 03:14:19 +0000 UTC]

Ok.. this is what i did to change the startup animation..

Open the pack you downloaded, inside the pack there's a folder SP1.
open the folder SP1, then Open Longhorn Style folder.
Extract the authui.dll inside the Longhorn Folder to your desktop,
then rename the C:\Windows\System32\authui.dll to authui.dll.backup ..
(Run the Take ownership 1st so that u can take control of that file..)
then Copy the extracted authui.dll from your desktop to C:\Windows\System32\..

Restart to take effect.. Hope that will help you coz thats the only thing i did and it works w/o any problem at all..
Im Using Vista Ultimate SP1..

dand2392 In reply to yethzart [2008-08-06 14:13:40 +0000 UTC]

ok.....im using vista home premium sp1.

I got it working, and its beautiful, but not in the way you described. Once i rename the original "authui.dll" to "authui.dll.backup", i can no longer copy move or cut anything. I can't even rename "authui.dll.backup" back to "authui.dll". Therefore i can't move your longhorn "authui.dll" to system32. Heres what i did instead just so you can help others with my wierd problem.
1. Take ownership of original "authui.dll"
2. Extract longhorn "authui.dll" to desktop
3. Shutdown
4. Put in windows recovery disk
5. boot cd\dvd drive.
6. system recovery options
7. launch command prompt
8. type copy "C:\users\yourusername\desktop\authui.dll" "C:\windows\system32"
9. press enter
10.shutdown
11.reboot (will take about 1 min longer than usual. Enjoy the new startup animation as you boot.

This works.....and the only reason i had to use the command prompt on the cd is because the command prompt on my laptop would no longer work either after i renamed the original "authui.dll" to "authui.dll.backup". It seems like after i rename it, everything stops working. Luckily im a genius

thanks again for your help, love the new animation!!!!!!!!

Is there a way to do this without a recovery disk? I don't have one. But I know how to get to a command prompt without really logging into Vista. I'm facing this problem on my Home Premium, too.

Congrats Im happy that u already done it.. Genius..
by the way, i think it only happens in Home Premium..
coz i tried my way in Vista Basic before and Still using the same procedure i did w/ Vista Ultimate, i didnt got any problem..

the way u make it work in Home Premium is like booting in Safe Mode in XP
and now Im very glad, that u successfully installed it Thank you also for sharing ur idea. I appreciated it

hope you'll make another style, not so related to windows (e.g. the annoying flags, orgs, etc.)

a great job, indeed.
