Was that ever established...? The little girl Garrett meets in Thief 3 is Erin and in Thief 4, he takes her as apprentice. I always thought of "old" and "new" Garrett as being the same person, but with slightly different backgrounds, like a parallel universe kind of thing. For example both had the weird eye, one mechanical one and the focus eye. Some people think they are reincarnations.
