Description
(2009) Acrylics. 52 hours.

Finally this dragon is finished. It took me a long time! I started it last summer (1.5 years ago now). It was gonna be a present to my cousin for her 20th birthday. Well, it didn't get finished in time so I put it away for a couple of months. Then, maybe two-three months ago I started on it again and this time I managed to finish it. Not in time for my cousin's birthday though. *lol* But she'll get it as a Christmas present instead.

I am not entirely happy with everything in this painting though. The dragon's scales look different on different parts of it because of the time difference between the painting sessions. Also it's too... gloomy. It doesn't look like sunshine, though it was meant to be. The wingbones look funny and in real the colours are a bit different (it's not quite so blue as here). But in general I'm quite happy with it (very happy with the eye). Not my best dragon design, but perhaps the best acrylic painting of one that I've finished so far. Anyways, I hope you like it. Constructive criticism is welcome if you see something that's a bit weird. (I know the dragon is a bit fat and probably can't fly though.)

Wow!! This is such a gorgeous piece! The time and love is obvious down to the last scale <3 Really awesome! And the eye is indeed catching.
If I were to critique on anything I would only say that, at first glance, the neck doesn't seem to connect fully with the top half of the head. Obviously it does though, I'm guessing that dragons head-spikes poke out and up a little, giving him(?) a nice and pointy crest C:

Thank you very much! Glad you like it! Oh... I never thought of it really, but it does look that way a bit! It's because of the ears and horns being in the way I think.
Thanx for commenting and giving critics!

this is one of the most gorgeous acrylic paintings I've seen in a very long time and the detail is AMAZING. x: I don't think I'd ever be able to finish a project like this so congrazzles <3 I'm sure your cousin will love it no matter how late it is. The fact you've spent so long on this gift alone will mean a lot :3

I am so amazed by the colour, detail and shading in this painting, it looks gorgeous! Also, I think it is incredibly "clean", considering the fact that it is a traditional painting. Not a single stroke is out of place! I really love this painting of yours, and I think you've done a great job

Thank you very much! It took a lot of time to paint all the tiny things! Haha, and if I'd done this on the computer not a single line would be in place at all! I like traditional paintings. Glad you like this one!

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-02-20 17:47:28 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! ^^ I love traditional art as well, though I'm not so experienced with paint yet. Pencils all the way for me! But you certainly know how to handle the medium, and the result is gorgeous Even the ground the dragon is laying on is beautifully detailed! Kudos to you!

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-26 10:42:14 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, laaate reply!
I like computer art, but traditional mediums is what I really love. They often have more feeling and depth, and you can't just set the brush to opacity 10% when you feel like it so it takes (sometimes) more skill. Though I know painting things nicely in the computer takes a lot of skill and patience too, I still feel that traditional is more "real". If you know what I mean?
Oh, you'll become good at paints if you just dare to try it a bit more! Once used to the brush it's not too bad. You're very good with the pencils! I have lost some of my proficiency with pencils. I use them so rarely nowadays!

Thank you again! The moss and grass etc killed I think, two brushes! *lol*

Haha, that's alright

I prefer traditional art as well. I just feel more proud of it, I guess. To me, digital art isn't as real as traditional art, and I like to be able to hold my work in my hands. Ah, I'm so emotional when it comes to art!

Same here! And you got a real "original" so to speak, too. Haha, but that's exactly the same way I feel about it! While a computer picture can be just as pretty and take as long time to create... you can't hang it on the wall or hold it. Well, you can print it, but then it's just a poster and not a real painting somehow. And also, the original will look exactly the same as any copies. Nah, I love traditional.

Go girl! Attack the canvas or paper with some brushes and paint! Yeee! Sorry, I just had to! I need to paint something new too. I'm working on this sculpture, but it takes so long time! I'm doing some doodles in the mean time though. Do you have any projects going on atm then?

Ooooh, sculpture! That's sounds great! I look forward to see it
I'm working on another digital painting, but I'm struggling quite a lot with it at the moment, so I really have to force myself to continue working on it. But I never intend to give up! I've worked for too many hours already to do that

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-28 13:18:38 +0000 UTC]

Yay! Thank you!
Haha, good luck keeping up the work then! Sometimes I struggle like that too... and I stall and wait and do other things. But eventually I usually get things done. Sometimes a picture need to rest so to speak. Or, I think so anyway. For me that is. Looking forward to see it though! However long time it takes.
