Excuse me what? I drew this. I did this for Smogon's The Smog and people have seen my WIPs.
I'll even post a screenshot of the PSD file if you insist I didn't.

Holy sword, this is awesome! I especially like the detail and the lighting, makes it look more antique.

Really nice piece here. Saw it as part of Smogons "The Smog" article and it put me on a quest to find its creator, I commend your work.

Of course you don't like Aegislash. You always get destroyed by itΒ

True. My main teams are Ice and Normal, neither of which like Steel-types. XD
But no, I just don't care a lot for the design. I like Honedge (sheathed) and Doublade (sheathed) is okay, but Aegislash just looks awkward to me. Overall, I tend to prefer the more animal-like designs.

So basically, you only like its pre-evolutions, and only when you're not using it in a battle.

All I can say is, you don't know what you're missing out on. With its Stance Change Ability and the move King's Shield, this beast can easily handle the duties of Deoxys-A and Deoxys-D without any need for a meteorite.

meh, aegislash is way overated, he's way too easy to shut down and requires too much setup to be any practical use.

jmcdavid In reply to Pyromance113 [2014-03-26 00:41:14 +0000 UTC]
I disagree. He starts a battle in Shield Forme, which has defensive stats on par with Deoxys-D. And if you use one offensive move, he instantly changes to Blade Forme, which has offensive stats similar to Deoxys-A. And King's Shield, the only move it needs to go back to Shield Forme, is arguably better then Protect, because it doesn't just stop attacks from doing damage, but it also lowers the opponent's Attack by two whole stagesΒ if it's a move that makes direct contact.
And let's not forget that by being a Ghost/Steel type, he has absolutely no weakness to Fighting type attacks, which can be a real pain in the butt for other Steel types. This means you only need to be careful around Fire, Ground, and Ghost types.
So if you're smart in your use of Aegislash, he won't get shut down, simply because he'll be too busy shutting your opponents down instead.

lets start with why kings shield is not a selling point.
Β if you are using a set with king's shield you will likely be using it every other attack so you can take hits in shield form while dealing damage in blade form, this sounds good on paper but in execution it is flawed for the following reasons.
1. king's shield is insanely predictable. when i say this the usual response is "it's not predictable when I use it!!!!!1111" don't even think about saying that, it's very arrogant and it comes with the move. you're either predictable or you're using it wrong. because it's so predictable it's very easy to attack aegislash when he's vulnerable
2. KING'S SHIELD DOES NOT BLOCK STATUS MOVES! this is a HUGE inferiority to protect as it makes him completely vulnerable to will-o-wisp and thunderwave, both moves being exceedingly crippling on an aegislash
3. Earthquake is not a contact move, because of this there is no downside to spamming it on an aegislash as if you hit it while it king's shields your attack won't drop. and god knows aegislash is not immune to earthquake.
Now moving on to the pokemon itself.Β The only way i have seen aegislash used is as a setup sweeper, but he's not effevtive at this at all, in the time it takes to use swords dance you can already take life threatening damage from 4 VERY common types: fire, dark, ghost, and ground even when in shield form. Then you're forced to shadow sneak because if you wait to go 2nd and use a more powerful move you'll get 2HKO'd by the previously mentioned types of moves and shadow sneak is not going to OHKO anything unless it's super effective and then aegislash dies before taking anything out.
Now that is the scenario i have lived through countless times without much varioation (i wasn't using the aegislash, i just think they are that easy to kill from experience)
assuming you get the swords dance off more successfully it's still not a very fair arguement because spamming swords dance on ANYTHING with a priority move (aqua jet, bullet punch, mach punch, quick attack) will yield a similar result. if you really want to use aegslash with swords dance and shadow sneak then use a scizor. they can take hits more consistantly and with technician he pulls off the whole priority sweep a lot more effectively. Talonflame is another good option for priority based sweeps.
Other options: the only other way to use aegislash besides maknig a special set mirroring the physical one is investing in his defensive stats and using him as a wall......aegislash has no recovery moves.....so......yeah...
i have NEVER had ANY TROUBLE with an aegislash EVER feel free to battle me and attempt to prove me wrong but from my experience aegislash just straight up isn't good. i actually look at an aegislash on the enemy's team before a battle and breath a sigh of relief because i know he won't be hard to deal with.
