This is the second of the Pacific Portraits I've slowly working on.

Project Idea:

I've inherited a lot of old books after my grandmother passed. What little time I got to spend with her let me know she was a very world knowing individual. She and my grandfather, both Texans, traveled a lot and were stationed in and around the various islands of the Pacific. They acquired a small library of books documenting the island people and their culture. This project has me going through these books and finding photos of women. I will draw these photos as they exemplify characteristics I remember my grandmother having. As the counter side, I will also be drawing from photos of my family (aunts, my own mother, siblings) any age to have a visual dialogue between those I know and those I don't know but have some connection to.

It's a work in progress in explanation but I think that's okay. I'm not planning to finish this project for awhile now. I can take my time making the work and figuring out the best way to talk about it.
