Very nice use of light and colour. Immediately, the toned-down use of lighting creates a distinct appeal. The striking gleam of light that glares on the figure's face creates this very engaging contrast, heightening the impact of the image and sharpening the look of the figure.
This effect is also applied to the face in particular, where the forms and features of the character are made distinct.
However, the darkness that envelopes the torso of the figure receives very much less light; I feel as if this actually benefits the image as the colour of the body closely resembles the colour of the dark background.Β This conveys the implication that the character is rather evil and sinister, as if he himself were an embodiment of the darkness.
Such a relationship between colour and light is very engaging and does wonders for the atmosphere of the piece, imposing a very dark, ghostly mood, especially with the use of those misty greys.Β In particular, those tendrils that wrap around the back of the figure really do appear rather haunting.
The lovely use of a vibrant focal point in applying the red to the facial region gives the image significantly more impact, creating a more dynamic colour scheme and enforcing the sinister atmosphere of ghoulish darkness.
Combined with the strong lighting and distinct forms, the red used in the face really does create a very powerful focal point to the image, reinforced by the darkness around it.
Again, wonderful use of that light and colour to convey the character's essence of evil.
