Description

Every action we make has consequences, and it is irreversible. Humans always take granted of what nature has given, what will be the consequences if this madness is not stopped? The greenhouse effect, the relentless rise of carbon dioxide, the haze, the melting of polar ice, the rising of sea level and etcetera, does EACH and EVERYONE of us as human really give a damn or put a conscious and CONTINUOUS effort into combating these issues? In the artwork, the expression of the irreversible consequences is presented by using two contrasting elements of the present - the reflection of the water and the future - fate of the city which we might lead ourselves to. The choice is in our hands, we steer ourselves in any direction we choose...

- Submitted for Nando's Art Initiative 2015
- Location of the artwork is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Inspired by a real life demolition scenery I saw in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur.)
- Spent like 3 weeks time on this piece of work from a sketch I drew last year, hope you guys like it thanks!

This is one of the best pieces of this type I've seen.. It's a commonly used idea, but one you pull off better than most. Even at first glance it has a profound impact, and draws attention. Then, the longer you look at it, the more details you begin to pick up on smaller details that add to the scene. Especially in the mirrored image in the water you really have to look to see things, such as the kite.(I hope that's what it is, it's kind of hard to tell. The person in the water does look a little off. Its something about the angle and size related to the canoe, it's hard to tell if he's standing in the water or floating face down. Other than that, the mechanics of the scene are flawless. I think that your explanation of the scene adds a lot to it's impact and scope.

Nature is never benevolent, never generous never charitable.

Actually it is the top environmentalist intellectuals who lack climate wisdom. Because they are unwilling to think in an unbiased way about the benefits and risks of fossil fuels according to a human standard of value, they are blinded to the fact that the fossil fuel industry is the reason they’re alive and not “helpless at the mercy of the climate however it may change.

This is a really stunning piece. I do love the conflicting reflection of the destruction - the world we wish we'd created, and the one we're stuck with. You've done a really wonderful job executing the concept here. Thank you so much for sharing this.

It's clear that in studying cost/benefit; the effects of more CO2 on plant growth, water use efficiency, & maybe a bit of warming are and will be entirely beneficial. Few people know CO2 was lower than any other time in Earth’s history before we used fossil fuels to increase it.

280 parts per million was the rough number before the Industrial revolution.

150-180 is the threshold where plants start to fail or die off if they don't get enough

415 ppm is the present CO2 level

1000 was the Average level...............for much of the Earth's history

For the last 140 million years CO2 levels declined with little addition at any point.

Plants growing in CO2 rich environments, the data shows it. Our plants are malnourished.

Wow this speaks a thousands words. It's strong and powerful. This blew my mind, at the end, we all need to see what damage was caused by us. How we affect the planet, our planet, our home.

Oh my goodness <3 this is absolutely, positively stunning not just because of the detail and colours, but because what this expresses is so very true! There are many things in today's society that are irreversible sadly, yet the good souls like us can hope for (and may bring) a brighter future.

Again, this is great!! Keep up the brilliant work~

Ah, all true, only the system / society / civilization / human attitude are way too inert, due to a number of reasons, and even if a shift of direction is desirable, I doubt it will manage to happen in time. But worry not. Mother Gaia will be okay. This planet has survived past cataclysms and will survive this one species as well. It's mankind which might not

YongL In reply to lapis-lazuri [2015-06-04 16:37:58 +0000 UTC]

it will happen but it will take a long time and requires tremendous effort and cooperation as one..
you are right, nature is always the winner in the end of the game

lapis-lazuri In reply to YongL [2015-06-04 17:22:29 +0000 UTC]

It requires more than that - it requires humanity acting on reason and responsibility rather than on greed and infantility. Given what humanity is like and how it is being governed.... I'm not an optimist.

Do we take stuff for granted? YES.
Do we give a damn? Well yes., Some of us. But those people are not the ones in control, so nothing is ever done.
Do we actually do anything about it? YES. Unfortunately as is repeatedly stated in human history - always too little. always too late.

beautiful work of art! BEAUTIFUL! depressing. but these days, what isnt.

I believe change will come, it will take a long time to create the awareness, that all of us need to be responsible for every single actions and decisions we made to nature
