Don't know if her bottom is the easiest writing surface, though.

I don't know if that's the problem - when stretched like that the gluteal muscles tighten up, making the surface pretty firm and stable.
I'd imagine the problem to be more her elevation: with her upper body at this height, she'd be craning her neck forward, writing with her elbows at an awkward and unsupported level (either above or below the surface), and the book would be pressed up right in front of her eyes.
Now, if she could tuck her thighs under her ribcage, it should allow her to have the proper elevation required to prevent those problems. And it's not like she hasn't demonstrated that it's within her capabilities.

The elevation is really not much of a problem overall, although maintaining the elevation for a good amount of time won't be so easy! The real problem is that there isn't enough space to keep a decent-sized book... Reading shouldn't be too big a problem though...
