Description

A Skyrim themed visual style for Windows.

The theme uses a light style for windows and controls, to avoid issues with any non-skinnable applications, and for best everyday functionality in my opinion.

Windows 8 port thanks to poweredbyostx

Made to match the style of my Skyrim Desktop 1.02

The icons I made use Token Icons by brsev as their base.

Want to give credit where credit is due, the dragon background in the second screenshot is by SpoonfishLee.  The title is You Stand on My Old Friend.  Anyone that likes it should check out his other stuff, he's pretty good.

Actually, it turns out the problem was that aero is incompatible with my device. Is there any way for me to get the windows 7 basic theme (the one that looks like aero but without all the fancy shizzlewizzle) to have the correct colour scheme?

Hey I have been using this very awesome desktop for a couple months now on Win7 x64 with no problems. Just recently windows did some updates and now it is completely broken. How can I safely remove it so I may reinstall it?

Thanks for making this and all your other desktops!

Hello!

I think if you apply the default theme again, then delete this theme itself (\Windows\resources\themes\Skyrim folder and the skyrim.theme file outside) and reinstall it, it should work.

Unless the uxtheme.dll got faulty; in which case you can use either command prompt -> type in sfc /scannow, or Universal Theme Patcher to restore the original file, then re-install UxStyle, then the theme.

Hmm, can't get the orb to work.  It won't let me use png? Is there another way? tried different resourcers for explorer.exe and still no go :<

Hmm seems strange.

Are you using Windows 8? If you are on Windows 7, try this Start Orb Changer (it lets you use .png files):
www.mediafire.com/download/71oi9dwrpu7d9b9/%21Windows+7+Start+Orb+Changer.exe

If you are on Windows 8, you have to convert the png files into bmp (in which case you have to be careful with the alpha channels to make it transparent). If you can't do that, send a mail to my at yorgash@mailbox.hu and I'll try to make them when I have some time.

I ended up re-installing my windows because I may or may not have forgot to backup my explorer and some other files I was messing around with to tweak my things...i was bored... :> But it worked out better for me that way because I was going to later on anyways because I had blogged down my system already with all the customization's i did and files I funktified so a clean install felt righteous.

I have managed to get the orb to finally work on my clean install using that changer so thanks!  No idea why it wouldn't change last time.  I did have a previous tweak done to system files so maybe it just interfereed or something.  Again thanks.  Love your skyrim skins

Hello there!

Yeah, I know how sometimes along the customizations we mess around with the system so much that even if it could be salvaged, a reinstall seems more appealing (been there, done that many times)

There is a command in the Windows command prompt that restores most of the system files (though the info is a bit late), but I'll still write it here in case; you have to open command prompt (as admin), and type in "sfc /scannow".

Anyways I'm glad it worked after the clean install, and I'm glad you like it!

I thank you!

For taskbar icons (using the icons I've made and included):
howtogeek.com/howto/28847/how-to-customize-your-windows-7-taskbar-icons-for-any-app

I think for installing the fonts you only have to open the Fonts folder in the archive, and right click -> install the included fonts.

In the preview, the second picture down, is that what it looks like in Windows 8? Because I have windows 7 and it would be awesome if I could make it look like that.

yorgash In reply to Sir-Eagle [2014-07-27 08:40:16 +0000 UTC]

No, these preview shots were taken on Windows 7, applying this visual style and the Rainmeter skin I've made and linked.

Windows 8 version is first link on the page, you can download the Windows 7 version from this page (for free); the "purchase" is more of a way to donate, so you get everything you need for free too.

With the images and a resource editor you can change them manually, but I will try if time and my PC lets me to make the 32 bit system files sometime soon.

With this theme the menu beside the shutdown button in the start menu isn't there. Do you know if there is any way for me to get it back?

yorgash In reply to optimaxion [2014-04-21 06:38:21 +0000 UTC]

You mean the one that expands the other shut down options?
I'll look into it sometime later, probably in a day or two, just remind me if I don't answer in 2 days.

optimaxion In reply to yorgash [2014-04-21 19:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes that's what I mean. And its not too important, I can still access those options from the ctrl alt delete screen, but I would like them to be on the start menu like they should. No rush. I really like this theme. Its very nice. This is the only problem I have with it.

If you switch the bottom skin to the system info panel, it has a system uptime indicator (can be hidden with the little "+" icon).

Hi your theme is amazing just 3 questions. How do I get the bar on the right in the middle screen shot? Also everything is blown up bigger on my desktop I'm at 1920x1080. And what is in the premium pack? going to pick it up tomorrow anyways lol :s Thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to FRiNGE07 [2014-04-07 09:27:15 +0000 UTC]

The middle screenshot had the taskbar on the right of the screen.
The skin automatically scales for your desktop resolution; it might appear a tad big on 1920 x 1080.
The premium pack is more of a form of donation rather than providing any extra content, as stated in the description.

How do you change the icons for the stuff on the taskbars, folders in my computer (the quick links on the left side), and the icons in the start menu? Also, do where did you get the backgrounds shown in the preview, I really like those. PS. love your work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to ElwinM3 [2014-04-04 21:43:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

First wallpaper is from the homepage of Skyrim, the others I just randomly found while googling "dragon" and "skyrim"; had the link to them, but can't seem to find them now.
You can change the start menu icons manually, the taskbar with an application called Taskbar Items Pinner or manually.
www.howtogeek.com/howto/28847/…

I use Stardock's IconPackager to change the explorer icons; the iconpack used is anthonium.deviantart.com/art/e… .

yorgash In reply to NoNameHuman [2014-03-24 01:09:00 +0000 UTC]

I will try to, but now - having everyone I've asked to port my other themes quit on me - I have many projects running.
SC2 theme port to 8, two different LoL themes port to 8, and a Steam visual style for 7, so I can't give even a rough estimation.

Adethor In reply to yorgash [2014-04-19 08:04:54 +0000 UTC]

Forget about porting to 8. Go directly for 8.1 . Most win 8 visual styles won't work on 8.1, and there are more people using 8.1.

Really nice, only problem I run into is that I have my taskbar at the top of my screen, and the start orb hangs over the edge of the bar. Otherwise great.
