Description
“Ah! Jambo! And greetings. I am Amara. My name is a popular word that means “Grace”. I come from a city in Africa called Cape Town. Widely known for its scenic beauty, rich history, and diverse cultural heritage.
When I was traveling to Ethiopia's Bodi village in Omo Valley, I was just in time to witness the men prepare for their most well known competition. You see, each June of every year, the selected men must drink a mixture of cow blood and milk. And they must keep drinking this mixture every day for 6 whole months. And by the end, the contest decides who, out of the selected men, has the biggest, most rotund, swollen stomach of them all. And the one with the biggest stomach wins, and will be seen as a hero to the entire village. Fun fact, most women of this village find men with big bellies to be the most desirable. The bigger the better I suppose. As I got to observe this ancient tradition, I met one of the chosen men named Amadi. His name means “Freeborn Man”. He was really struggling through this. But he didn't want to let everyone down. So for the next 6 months, I was there to take care of him. I gave him the strength to endure this challenge. And.. well, we began to fall in love. As the challenge came to a close, Amadi came out victorious! I had to help him walk around and get by because, my goodness! He had the most swollen, gigantic stomach I've ever seen! You should have seen how massive it was! He's quite skinny and works out on the regular, but with his heavy belly, he could barely walk at all.
But soon after he won, he proposed to me. And as soon as we were married, we traveled back to Cape Town to live out our new married life together. And over time, Amadi was able to get back into shape and soon become fit again. But, his looks don't matter to me. I love him just the way he is. And as time flew by, we decided to start a family. A big family. As days turned to months, it was my turn for my belly to grow and grow. As I have now become pregnant! As of now, my stomach has grown to be just as big as my husband's belly was during the contest. If not, slightly bigger. As I patiently await the arrival of our little ones, you'll find me playing with the young children of Cape Town. They see my swollen belly and are always so amazed with childish wonder. And look! They even gave me some tribal paint. I love it! One day, these precious little ones will grow up and start their own families.
And as for my husband, he dreams of becoming a professional bodybuilder, as he wants to set a strong example for both the children of Cape Town and for our children. He wants to be strong enough to hold all of our kids in both his arms at once. *She giggled softly* He hosts weekly exercise sessions for those who want to keep their bodies in shape. As for me, I've become passionate about painting and writing. I'm working on a big journal that chronicles my entire pregnancy journey, and other wonderful little moments that happen every day. So that one day, I can have many stories to tell my children.”
