I finally finished it, as far as I can. This is an entery for an Outfit Design Contest hosted by *fongmingyun to make a new outfit for her character Bohren!

Bohren of Tabir works as a knight, employed by a royal family. The guy lying on the edge is his best friend Rivek, who Bohren has a secret crush on~!

There's a number of things I'd like to explain with this, because everything in the picture has some meaning.

First of all their pose. I tried several drawings with a perspective on the castle-wall but I couldn't get it to work right. I'm afraid this is eventually what I worked out, but it did give Bohren and Rivek the best views! I'm very bad at backgrounds, but I thought it would be necessary to describe their position. They are warriors basically, each in their own domain. They are from different part of the world (different countries as far as I know) and Rivek is a bit of an outsider.
Bohren is more comfortable with the surroundings, but Rivek is still somewhat distant sometimes. This is the feeling I got from *fongmingyun 's descriptions in her gallery. Rivek is in fact a kind of mage who could turn into a bird of prey. This is why he's lying on the edge of this castle wall so nonchalantly. He could fall, but he won't. He's not afraid of the heights, of the distance going downwards behind him. He enjoys the sky. Bohren pays all kinds of attention to him, but he's a little reluctant to give in. But secretly, he is comfortable with Bohren being so close. He's relaxed, knowing Bohren respects him.

So, about the outfits. Rivek's outfit is authentic, as drawn by *fongmingyun in her gallery. I tried to use her black/white art as well as colored works to make a nice mix. His colors seemed a little like the sky, the sort of gray and blue and purple. If he would hide in a tree, he could disappear.
But Bohren, as a warrior with both feet on the ground, carrying swords, he needs to look powerful. He would have armor to protect him, but he can take that off too, and he'd wear a nice white shirt with a low front. But he has also made certain choices, consciously or not, to still seem close to his friend's style. The feathers on the shoulderpads are red (red is a color of war, pride, and is proven to make people feel more competent and strong in battle), but they also stand for Rivek's background.
The symbol on Bohren's chest is similar. I think it could be a stone or some kind, which should both protect the wearer even more from lethal weapons to the heart, but since it is red, it is also a challenge to the enemy. It shows the enemy: 'right here, look, I am not afraid'. It's daring. I imagine the other soldiers could choose their emblems. Bohren chose this.
And of course, he is carrying the small bracelet that he got from Rivek, with the feathers in it. He can't be pictured without it, I think he always has them with him.
The belt actually has a symbol I found on Bohren's clothing in the original artworks, I thought it was pretty. And the blue sash beneath it, is another bold color, another statement that Bohren is a type of warrior who doesn't need to hide. He will fight.
But below that, again he put some bandaid around his leg, perhaps to carry a dagger, but perhaps also, when in combat, to be reminded of his friend.
The shoes are also from *fongmingyun 's description, since Rivek wore high boots, and Bohren thought that was weird. So he would likely wear lower shoes. I used to work in a fantasy-shop selling medievil clothes and outfits for Live Action Role-Play (LARP), so many of these details are taken directly from armor that can really be worn. I like to keep things realistic. The dark-green pouch, and the holder for his sword, are a direct reference to that.

Since I am graduating from Uni, I didn't have so much time to work on it. In fact, I think I will draw him again soon, from closer by, and improve the details.
