The air was freezing cold as they got out of Finn’s car. Mr. Shue wanted them to get a Christmas tree for their new “traditional seasons week“ and since they still were, at some degree at least, the co-leaders of New Directions, he decided to send them to buy one. Rachel snuggled closer to Finn, trying to catch some of his body heat while they were slowly walking through the square.

“Those look pretty good, don’t you think?” he asked her as they passed some trees.

She nodded but continued walking, clearly having other things on her mind. He stood next to a pair of nice looking ones, letting go of her. She didn’t notice at first, but when she did, she turned around to find him looking at her.

“Um… sorry, I just thought about…”

Finn stepped forward and embraced her in a hug.

“What’s wrong? Tell me.”

She raised her eyebrows, starting to talk quietly, but as she spoke on, her voice got louder and slightly higher.

“We are just in the same situation as last year only that it‘s actually not really the same since we’re happy and you won‘t cheat on me again, will you? No wait, I don’t want to blame you for anything, I’m just saying that in contrast to last year, there are good things for us to come, right? Yes, you might didn’t get into the college you wanted because the talent scout thought you weren’t good enough for them and it’s not looking all so great for me either with me not even winning the Senior class president election but at least we got each other a–“

Finn leaned down and kissed her to stop her babbling.

“You’re amazing, okay? And with all your activities on your resume, they’ll love to take you into NYADA and you’ll blow them all away. Don’t forget, you already got the lead in our school musical this year and as it looks at the moment, we’ll win Nationals too - after all Sectionals was an easy win for us.”

Rachel smiled up at him, reassured by his words. She looked past him to the trees and went to have a closer look at one in particular. The tree was nicely grown, a bit small, but looked like it would fit perfectly in the choir room.

She turned to Finn, a huge smile on her face, “What do you think? Isn’t that one great? It would look spectacular next to the piano!”

He nodded, “Yeah, I think so too. I’ll go and look for the salesman.”
