These two are buddies. Let me explain how they met. Yay! Storytime with Abby

So Link and Tetra came across these islands that was basically like a mini rainforest. It was called the Outcast Islands and only fauna's lived there. Anyway Lyra managed to find the pair before the rest of the tribe did and told them to leave before they were killed. They didn't listen and got captured. The leader of the tribe was this guy who didn't like Hylians for reasons back when Hyrule was around instead of the Great Sea. Of course he wasn't around then but ancestors and books told him things. He believed in killing any Hylian he saw, no question. Lyra was his betrothed for reasons she couldn't understand, but she was entirely against the idea of killing anything(except if it were something exceptionally evil(e.g. Ganon, she would've obliterated him)). Anyway she said if they killed them, she would kill herself. The leader hastily stopped her but hit her a couple of times for defying him(this guy was a dick by the way, in case you hadn't guessed). Lyra expected him to stop her but either way she was happy she had saved them.

Anyway she helped both of them back to their ship and waved goodbye.

About a week later the leader had gone off to a nearby island and taken all the children to use as slaves or sacrifices(yeah I'm sorry this story ends happy I promise you!) or whatever he wanted. Lyra got extremely annoyed, running in front of the children before they were attacked. The leader got angry and hit her hard in the face causing her to fall the ground. She got up and screamed "I WON'T LET YOU HURT ANYMORE PEOPLE!". Suddenly a staff appeared with a huge crystal transparent ball attached to the end above her and landed in her hands. The leader smiled widely whilst muttering something. He was about to attack when she whacked him on the head with the ball, but when she spun around she teleported into the middle of the ocean.

She woke up in a bed with Link and Tetra sitting at her side. After that she asked them for help which they agreed to. They went back to the isles but when Lyra and Link got split up, Link got caught. She found the tribe again but when she saw Link was there and was being tortured she early blew a casket. She said 'let him go' but the leader said only if she gave him the staff. She did so, but when the leader tried to use the staff to destroy her it didn't work. It only worked for Lyra. She used this chance to kick him in the stomach and retrieve her weapon. She fought for a while but became weak fast. They finally stopped but then they nearly killed Link. Lyra lost it and screamed. She then turned into her true form(spirit wolf) and lost all sense. She killed the leader of the tribe, but the force was so powerful it knocked out all the others too(except Link). She then turned back, but was extremely tired and fell. Link ran to her and stayed with her until she woke up, while also telling Tetra that it was safe to come.

She woke up again in a bed with her sister(not blood related) Hailey sitting there. She said that Lyra should go and help other people and that she would be there by her side as backup. So the two both left with Link and Tetra to go sailing and stuff.

That is basically what happened. In the end Lyra kind of acts as if Link is her owner, is very loyal to him and will always put him before anything else.
