Description Papercraft commission of Albert and the Count from Gankutsuou! Not only is this one of my all-time favorite series, it was actually the inspiration for me to start making papercraft in the first place. I’d wanted to make a tribute piece for years, so I was super excited to finally get the chance with this piece. Dream commission!

OMG I love this! Gankutsuou has such an inspiring style and it looks so great in your papercraft version.
Your art looks amazing, I am stunned by all the lovely details. It even reminds me a bit on the art of Klimt. Sooo pretty!

What a lovely comment! Gankutsuou had a huge influence on my style of papercraft, so I'm really happy this version does it justice. ^_^ And I actually did take some inspiration from Klimt for the details of this particular piece! Good eye!

You're welcome!
It looks amazing, so YUP you really do Gankutsuou justice. It mixes up the feeling of the anime art with your very own style, without making it looks like some kind of art copy. I also like how you drew the hair of the count.

I really enjoyed watching your gallery.

Another new series to me. I take it, it must be amazing to have inspired so much!

Is...is that little chain an actual chain?

Also just as an aside, you wouldn't happen to be interested in posting/selling scans of some of your paper textures as stock for digital artists by chance? I love those oranges and browns...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Yutaan In reply to SilverSugar [2017-12-18 16:46:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the series has a really striking visual style! It uses patterns and textures to marvelous effect.

And yep, it's an actual jewelry chain. ^_^ I love using craft supplies or other non-paper materials as accents in my papercraft work. Chains are tricky to work with, though - they always want to fall off the piece! I really like the final effect, though, so I keep at it.

As to selling texture stock, I've never considered it. Since I mostly use premade patterns - decorative papers sold at art supply stores or by paper companies - those patterns are owned by the original companies, not by me. I suppose I could sell the patterns I make myself, but they only make up a pretty small percentage of the papers I use, so I confess I never really thought about it.

SilverSugar In reply to Yutaan [2017-12-19 16:26:37 +0000 UTC]

I kinda feel similarly about Chowder of all things. It's what got me into wanting to use patterns and textures myself hahaha. Not the most elegant of cartoons, but inspiring in its own way!

Ah, that is brilliant! Certainly worth it from what I can see.

And ohmygosh I do hope you'll consider it. I would be all over them.

I've actually heard that about Chowder from a couple other people too! I've never seen it myself, so now I'll have to check it out, haha.

O:

There is - so much amazing stuff going on here, I don't know that I can mention it all. Composition - stunning. Use of the cape to connect them together, along with just the GENERAL EPICNESS OF THAT CAPE FLOW - And the paper. Oh WOW the paper. Is...it the same paper as in "What Big Teeth You Have"? It doesn't seem quite the right shade, but the gold is familiar. I love the - it feels like a burst of holy light, haha. The gold lines there. The contrast of the blue skin and hair!! Is!! Amazing!! And the totally different contrast of the rectangular, pixel blocks against the otherwise fluid lines. Amazing!!
And is that another chain I spy? It is incredible. Just an incredible piece. ^^

Yutaan In reply to AmuletStar [2017-12-15 07:01:21 +0000 UTC]

Aaahh, this is such a lovely comment! I'm so flattered you took the time to notice all the little details and compositional elements, like the gold lines (which, yes, were meant to evoke a burst of sunshine or holy light) and the chain and the shape of the cape. And yes, it's the same paper as the Alucard piece! It's actually a rusty-orange paper, but for the other piece I dyed it red; I left it as-is for this one. You've got a good eye!

i think i tried watching it long ago but quit, but i dont know if its one of those series i can only appreciate later in life. the styles definitely intriguing though. no clue what its really about yet

Yutaan In reply to Entraya [2017-12-13 16:39:21 +0000 UTC]

The pacing can be slow at times, especially at the beginning of the series, so that could have been a factor. And plot-wise, it's about REVENGE!

Ahaha thank you! from the anime I think my favorite scene would be Haydee's appearance with
the opera house in the long, flowy dress which made her notice Albert's dad and like she almost falls,
the music was sooo good, but yea I can't wait to read it!

I love the asthetics in this anime and the interesting changes to the story which got me into the original story, but if only they stuck a few things to the actual story because I didn't like one part in the ending I won't mention. Because reasons. lol

Yutaan In reply to Kitan777 [2017-12-05 21:20:50 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the art style is so neat! Haha, and I actually watched the series before I read the book, so for me it was sort of a weird experience to read the novel afterwards, and find out what the series had changed that way.

Kitan777 In reply to Yutaan [2017-12-07 21:57:19 +0000 UTC]

I would actually love to read the book as I have also seen the 2002 live action adaptation.
I recognized this series because of this movie which I saw first. I was very intrigued by the asthetics (lol can't spell) but it was a very unique approach on the story. I love the series regardless.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. This Anime is a masterpiece!! I personally really enjoyed the story changes and the space opera adaptation to the Dumas classic!
And while I know at first, it's a bit hard to adjust to all the lovely patterns it quickly leads you appreciate everything going on in side them!
How did I not put 2 and 2 together that it inspired your style? I must be an idiot. XD
