Made for Fan Expo.Ansem was going to have clothes but I was finishing this literally the night before leaving for Canada and I had to wake up in two hours and this is a Square game so of course his outfit has twelve thousand ridiculous pieces and I was just like "FUCK IT he's shirtless when you fight the final boss in KHI, I'll just make it like this, nobody cares" and then I woke up and looked at this grown-ass man looming craggily over a fifteen-year-old baby and whispered "I have made a terrible mistake"

They're Ansem and Riku from the Kingdom Hearts game franchise, and I also have very little idea what the squiggly black stuff of power is. I just... needed some kind of border... for the piece.... Don't tell anyone....

I don't really give two fucks about KH, but this is effing glorious! I LOVE the noses and the hair and the flowy bits and everything! So to you, from someone who hates KH, I give you mega props for a great piece of art!

The noses are a bit big, and Ansem has orange eyes instead of red... But that's all I can say on it. xD
Besides that it looks really good! I like the style you use! It's different from most Kingdom Hearts fanart pieces, or so I think!Β

Ah, I just like drawing larger noses! Thank you for the tip on Ansem's eyes, though; I couldn't tell if they were supposed to be orange or two-toned red and yellow, and in the end, went with red.... I'll be sure to fix it next time.Β

Firstly, this is an awesome piece of work. It has a great style, and you clearly meant the old guy to be threatening, which he totally is. With that in mind...
With the Black tendrils I thought it was a venom (from Spiderman thing) at first. I didnt immediately clock the old man leering at young guy thing - until you pointed it out...
And now I cant look at it without thinking something like -
"Come into my loving embrace"
But I think the thing thats really activating the boy love in this is simply that the shape/layout is kinda heart shaped. Its not obvious at all, but I think its kind of subliminal - an old guy and a young dude locked together in a heart shape...
These things happen. I once drew a girl riding a giant bunny, and everyone who saw it said the girl looked scared and the bunny looked threatening. But it never entered my mind once that the bunny looked evil or the girl vulnerable.
Anyhow, this is still an awesome piece of work. Its well made, well put together, it jas energy, a life of its own.

Haha, thank you for the long, well-thought-out comment! It is a little bit "come into my loving embrace," yeah.... And as for the heart shape of the composition, it was... intentional... kind of...? Since this is Kingdom Hearts, I thought using the characters to make heart shapes would be fun (it's a lot more overt in this one, for instanceΒ Yutaan.deviantart.com/art/The-β¦ ), but... hadn't realized how creepy it would end up looking here. XD Ah well! Next time!

hahaha your artist's comments are priceless! And quite honestly, I think most people will actually prefer shirtless!Ansem. And I can't even fathom the patience it would take to do his ridiculous outfit. Some of the textures/patterns on the paper look like they're done by hand- do you every make your own patterns?

Thank you very much! I do occasionally make my own patterns, but much of what I use is not made by me. (I don't think I used any homemade patterns in this piece, for instance.)
