From Reddit:

(This is pretty obvious so I didn't think I need to point it out but it seems that some people need to hear it: No, I don't think all religious people are like this. Yes, I do know these are extreme cases. But the point is that these are all recent events and we shouldn't live in a world where this kind of intolerance still exists. I've lost count the number of times that I've been harassed by Christians so the next time you see someone picking on gay people, saying atheists should be killed, don't be a bystander and just let it happen. Speak up. Stop a crime before it happens.)

Yeah, those people are true cristians. Threatening to kill someone, their God must be so proud of them (And they are telling ME that I'll go to hell, which I dont even believe in.....)

Just let people believe what they want to believe in. If you want to be an Atheist go ahead. If you want to be Catholic go ahead, its what YOU believe in. It's stupid for people to judge you by your own beliefs.

People need to understand that the followers of any religion are human. We all make mistakes.
I consider myself christian and can't stand it when people point out mistakes I've made that are talked about in bible I shouldn't have done.

Or when they generalize all Christians into one big group as hypocritical evil monsters that are the cause of everything wrong in the world. When people do that they are being very disrespectful and ignorant of the people are actually doing good things in the world.

Its so easy to persecute one group to use as a scapegoat for another group. It's the same principle as racism. Racists blame/execute/torture particular groups out of ignorance. There is no basis in their belief. It's very illogical. Don't let a few bad apples spoil the bunch, i.e let a handle of people who call themselves of a certain religion(that is rooted in peace and understanding but do the opposite) influence your opinion of other people in that belief system.

There is some confusion between someone helping out their fellow man in the Christian way(as the bible speaks about) and just being evil and unusual with your advice. The meanings between the two are being forever switched with each other when they shouldn't be.

The world is fucked up. And, as you have shown here, religion is basically the main problem. Almost every religion has people in it that are not tolerant and will do everything they can to "kill or convert" (a line from the "Chronicles of Riddick") Until those people stop, the world will not be at peace.

And on another picture we have religion speaks of peace etc stuffs.

Even when someone gets a Ph.D that doesn't mean they know enough.

Same with religion, don't judge if you know a little, and just one religion? Come on.

We have nobel prize winners too for you to debate, don't go arguing not debating with people who are moderate.

If you are right, bring it on, be brave that you are right. Debate wisely.

There are many debates, but I'm quite sure many Atheist ignorantly think they have knew enough.
No, in this life, we will feel the need to learn more even after learning so much.
We will feel proud when we know so little.
That's normal.

Also, when arguing, please don't change the topics drastically, that really show that you didn't do enough research for yourself to understand.

"Learn from an Atheist the right way they learn it, learn about religion the right way they learn it".
By guidance from someone that is very good at it.

Okay, there needs to be some SERIOUS explanation for this stuff, and I'll be the one to talk.

NO TRUE RELIGION OF GOD ALLOWS THESE ATROCITIES IN THIS WORLD!

If somebody is gay, YOU RESPECT THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE! This is what ISLAM teaches, and this is what CHRISTIANITY AND JUDAISM ALSO should teach!

If somebody is lesbian, YOU RESPECT THEM MORE BECAUSE THEY ARE WOMEN!

What these religious EXTREMISTS are doing is 100% WRONG, INVALID.

This is the MEDIA, making religions look BAD!

There is NO SUCH THING as Honour-Killing in Islam, NO such thing as executing people for their beliefs, no such thing as killing innocent people, no such thing as stoning, no such thing as raping, no such thing, NO SUCH THING! And I'm 100% sure Christianity or Judaism does not allow this as well.

I agree with the owner of this submission, THIS WORLD NEEDS TOLERANCE! And WE TRUE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE, and ATHEISTS need to UNITE and DEFEAT THE CORRUPTION IN THIS WORLD!

Form the brotherhood, form the sisterhood, we are HUMANS, we are ONE.

But why do Muslims keep throwing LGBT people from tall buildings to their deaths? They do this by accident or sheer negligence?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Exillior In reply to dudiho [2019-10-16 23:42:14 +0000 UTC]

We don't all throw LGBTQ+ people from cliffs or tall buildings. That's a practice the Talibans started, which was then embraced by ISIS. They're hardly a good example of mainstream Islam - most of their victims are muslims and most of the people fighting them are muslims. There are LGBTQ+ people who are muslim too, just as there are those who are jewish and christian - also Abrahamic religions.

Saudi Arabia, for example, tortures people who criticise the royal family. Again, that is not a standard Islamic practice, that is something an extremist regime is doing.

Normalising these extremely unacceptable practices as being "religious" is dangerous because it makes people think they have a mandate to commit those acts lawfully.

Great post. I have nothing against religions itselves, but I have a lot to say against how they are explained to those people. They did not come with these extremists ideas themselves, someone must have taught them that...
I think that you true religious people should try to change the situation. In the end, extremist are still part or your religion and you are the only ones who can prove them that they're wrong. You are the only ones who they might listen to, you are the ones who should know the most about the religion no matter what church you belong to.

How horrifying...it's shameful, both because those are fellow human beings committing such blind, hate-filled acts, and because many are doing it under the name of the faith I've followed my whole life. I'm a Christian. I read my Bible. You know what I see? A request for unconditional love. We're supposed to live as examples of our faith, not as bearers of our own twisted ideals of judgment. It's honestly pathetic how deluded and distorted "religion" has become.
I have friends who are gay, lesbian, Muslim, atheist...even one who claims on occasion to be a Satanist. Whether or not I believe their decisions are right, I'm going to love them. Love is something this world needs more of. We might actually get somewhere with that kind of precept. We might even get to the point where we could calmly and rationally discuss our varied points of view without ignorant outbursts of hatred and bias.

I have been a Christian all my life and grew up in a loving church. The Christians I know try to tell gays and Muslims about God not kill them. It angers me that this is what religion is turning in to. A big pool of judgement, hate and fighting opinions. WHY CAN'T WE JUST LOVE GOD AND PEOPLE! WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO! Come on Christians you can do better than this. This journal entry makes me angry.

I now want to give up my religion, but not my relationship with God.

As many people here have probably already mentioned, there is so much hate in this world, but we cannot allow ourselves to be blinded, and miss the good things!

I believe in God, a lot of people do. But at the same time, I also have a problem with religion.
I dont want to call myself a "christian" anymore, because it's completely tarnished by the "Christians" who blindly follow what their local pastor says.
Christianity is not about hate. And while there are so many things religions do in the world for good, there are now so many idiots who ruin everything religion tries to build to better humanity (such as looking after people, caring for people etc.)

I cant help but believe that religion has been destroyed by money and ignorance.

I just want to let anyone know who is reading this, that no matter what you believe, weather it is in a God, or weather it is in nothing, live for the good in the world.
Hate is something that will continue to devestate the world, and each other.

We need to stop bagging out each other, and each faith, or lack there of, because the fight is only going to continue.
Nothing is one sided. We just need to learn to get along, and although it may be against what your religion tells you, let people believe in what they want to believe.
Let people know what you believe and why, but there is no need to force it. Or hide it for that matter. We need to accept each other.

Im so sick of having to hide that I believe in God because of the fear that people will ridicule me.

As for waht you said, I completely agree with you, There's a problem with religion and those who call themselves christians but they have hatred on them.

We should live in peace with others no matter what they believe, If we can win one or two souls for our side it is fine, but theres no need to force it, or toor to be mean to anyone.

I'd just like to say that I am a Christian. I can see your arguments Yuumei but I'll just take this moment to say that not all us Christians, or other religious people, are gay haters/extremists/mindless shit headed bastards, this is a minority. The sad thing is this minority has a large 'megaphone' called the media... it is a sad, sad thing that the world has this view on us based on what these people do.
The Bible tells us many things, but it tells us most about the love God has for us and how we should love each other regardless of sexuality/race/religion. To respect one another's decisions.
I am seventeen years old and have never been very strong in my faith, but the teaching of love has been seared into my mind. I will end my post with the statement that I am a Christian and my friends and family are gay/lesbian/bi, my friends and family are atheists/Muslims/Buddhists/Jewish and I can't imagine a world without these amazing people in my life.

Sorry in advance for the long post.

I'm agnostic, and throughout my education often had to study the Bible. Nowhere in any passage we read through did it say to hate the people who hold different views to you. The Bible is full of contradictions because it was written by different people who worded it according to their personal beliefs.
I'm lucky to live in a liberal country, it just saddens me that a human being could hold such contempt for their fellow man. Anger is a primal and raw emotion, unable to be fully controlled, and when someone is in it's grip they are lost to all reason and blind to reality.
