I always wanted to draw a picture that explores the personality of a masochist, but not someone who physically abuses oneself; I wanted someone who enjoys emotional abuse.I imagine that person to be someone who does contradicting things. It wants to be with other people, but locks itself in a bathroom. It doesn't want to be wet, but turn on the facets and opens an umbrella. It wants friends and cuts out little people, then tears them apart.
The gratifying pain is symbolized through the bleeding paper dolls.

I wanted to try a new drawing technique with this picture. It lacks the thin lines and smooth colors of my other styles. I drew it with a canvas texture but it's hard to see because of the small size on dA. The actual image is very big with detailed textured lines that looks like it was made with charcoal.

I know this is old, but the way your mind works when creating illustrations is beautiful . The contradiction of her being in a bathtub filled with water, yet holding an umbrella so water does get on her is just amazing ! Your work and mind is truly genius !

It's such a masterpiece...the loneliness of the faceless character under the umbrella is the perfect synthesis of someone that's covered and annihilated in his pain...also almost drowning, judging the quantity of water that is rising in the room
And the bloody dolls swimming on the surface, like fragments of the sorrow emerging from the deep
That person feels the way I often am...

I felt like crying after reading the description I totally and completely relate I don't know if I'm a complete masochist but I think I am at least partially and I hate the contradictions especially to do with friends why cant life be black and white why do I hate and love something at the same time why do I want you to know something but at the same time I neever want you to find out why do i want you to leave me but at the same time hope you never leave why am i sad that you left me why am i both sad and happy that you came back why cant I choose between happy or sad?why do I have to be so complicated
