Well anime is technically a word stemmed from animation so you can say they are japanese 'cartoons', but you can easily tell the difference between style, themes and target audiences if you watch and compare them its not that hard to tell the difference

Yeah, there's a huge difference between anime and cartoon, but I think they're the same base They both are animations, so technically, they are the same. I think. Does that make sense?

Yupyup, they are basically still drawn frames to create illusion of movement You can say their similarities are like between chimpanzees and gorillas, similar enough but different.
