It's also nice to know Mello went to heaven, even after all the crimes he did. But it was all for a good cause, so.. yeah.

oh man, sorry for the spoiler....and L died by Rem writing his name in the death note in order to save misa. (by light's command) Mello was killed by Kiyomi takada, Kira's spokesperson. He kidnapped her, and she had a piece of the death note with her. and Matt died after assisting Mello with takada's kidnapping. he was shot (multiple times T.T) by her body guards....even after he gave up and put his hands up...i cried for weeks........
