I like the arrow wobble, but while I create my games I find that exaggerated animation to feel like too much. I watch the arrows (or spears) fly and it's more satisfying to watch it perform as expected instead of gaining sudden speed and size to make it more dramatic.

Actually the biggest factor to make the arrows and spears more satisfying was making the smaller enemies fall with the arrow/spear stuck in them at the same speed they were hit, and larger enemies with half or a third of that speed.
Watching a mini-boss leap in the air to be met with your arrow or spear and plummet to the ground is arguably one of the most satisfying parts of my game.
The other most satisfying thing is changing the sprite to look like it's actually stuck inside its target.

For non-game animations, this is great, but for pixel platformer video games like mine, I just feel like the advice doesn't hold up.

oh definitely, this is for hitting walls or trees mostly.  Hitting an enemy the wobble would not be as clear.  Thanks I might make it more clear or another different tutorial for hitting enemies

For sure, I usually find myself in a position that is outside the intended purpose of tutorials.
However for use of animations (or perhaps even cut scenes in my own game) this was quite useful.

Nice tutorial! Although the game engine in question would complicate things such as the arrow spacing.
Like is the arrow just an animation or an actual entity? Does it travel or teleport? And other such questions that art techniques, however excellent they may be, can not answer.

I'm using RPG Maker VX myself, and the battle animations are by and large very foreign and confusing to me.
I do plan to switch to RMMV for my next project. Hopefully the animations won't be as confusing in that version.
Of course if the game engine is just too difficult to learn I'll go back to VX. Better to go with what you know than to flail about for an eternity in a foreign environment.
