Very nice animation! I really like the goblin character too. Reminded me a bit of Goblin Slayer when I saw it. I haven't actually watched the anime, just reading the light novels but the way he just casually pulls out his food and crunches it down is great. Very creepy and cool!

I just saw this on twitter and didn't realise I already followed.
The animation is super slick. If the game is this quality it will be pretty amazing.
Do you have any suggestions about where someone could find detailed explanations about animation cycles? I've searched but reading material/vids on the subject is thin.

thx!

sorry I don't know of any tutorial about that, but if you mean just loop the animation you just need to have your final frame the same as the first and kinda tween it together.  It just takes some planning too.

I'd love to find an in depth book, blog,  anything about retro pixel animation. Different loop sizes for which games, tips and tricks on stuff like squash and stretch, particle effects etc.. but mainly just focused on animation. You can find infinite resources on making sprites or tiles, using pixel programs but very little on actual industry information/history of pixel art.
Forums are ok but I'd rather have a book. Animation books help but I'd love a specific pixel art animation book.
Like most people I'm self taught so it's all down to trying to find the info. I'm currently learning aseprite as graphics gale and photoshop aren't working out for me. Trial and error dude. way of life.
Your animations really are slick. I imagine it's years of doing/time spent to get to that level but I'd be really interested in hearing your journey. What got you started? what you read or referenced to learn? What's your story dude?

The animation principles are the same for pixel art too, the book I used to read was The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams.  I'm not sure if there is a pixel art specific animation book but really it's the same across the board just in principle.  I'm mostly self taught too, started off in MS paint of all things, but settled on photoshop finally.

That's similar to me. I've read that book too. It's one of the best for animation.
I'm amazed you use photoshop for all your work as it really isn't the best for pixel or animation (which I can say from experience). I guess as always it's down to the skill of the individual and not the tools they use. Keep up the great work man. The new animation is looking awesome.

I'm still using photoshop but I've been trying out other programs like aseprite to find something better for animation. Onion skins would be a huge help.
These Goblins sprites you're making are beautifully smooth. Keep going dude.
