First off, I don't want to sound rude or something, i just always write plane what's in my head, I like your Idea and concept, otherwise I wouldn't comment
Okay, I'm not really experienced with writing critiques, but let's see how I can point one or two things out for you.
For the technique, you did it pretty well so far, but to give it a more realistic look, you need to define shapes, you will archieve that, with a more hard edged brush. (More hard shades and highlights.)
On the face, i only can recommend to look up some face studies that can give you brief instructions, like "the eyes are on the same level like the ears" and "the nose is always shaped like a triangle".
It looks like you only removed the outlines after coloring, but it will look more smooth, when you reduce the opacity, set it on multiply and shade/ paint further over it.
