Description This is my Geisha girl colored. I haven't finished it but I wanted to uploaded it to show everyone how the color was coming along. I'm pleased with her color ....the back ground is HIGHLY a WIP. I need to find a photo or draw a back ground for her. But this is to show you all how its coming along. I hope you like it if you have any constructive ideas please tell me. Tell me if you like it also .

I agree with all the other suggestions about the clothes and highlighting , I would just suggest , if you want a sunset background , instead of using a gradient for the sky like you've done here , why not try painting out one. There's tons of sky tutorials here that you can work from.

Yeah I'm removing the shine and I'm darkening the parasol. I'm taking your advice and creating my own sky.

Yeah a sun set is what I was aiming for. My plan is to either paste a photo of a scene or draw and color a scene. THANKS for the comment. Glad you liked it.

I like how the skin colour came out...skin is such a pain in the butt to get right! I agree with the white highlights it gives the effect of plastic or shiny leather. I like the umbrella but i would darker the center of it a little more with shadow...make more realistic, if that what your wanting anyway. The eyes came out nice too. I wont comment on the lower half...lol.

How dark should an umbrella be? If you have seen most cheapish traditional oriental para cells they are a bit thin. The light shines in and glows a bit. Not that they don't shade but they aren't really that dark inside. [link]

They are more for looks. But I can work on her kimono's shine if its that big of a distraction.

I think you shouldn't use white for highlights, the cloth looks so... nylon-like with that. Use a bit lighter blue than the color of the clothes instead.

oh it was suppose to look a bit sliky.

It doesn't look like that, I think. You should use pictures of a silk cloth as a reference, and you'll see that silk doesn't shine like that.

Well I was mistaking silk for nylon. I wanted it to look like the material on a pair of shiny boxer shorts I have seen. I think it makes her look more sexy. I can take it away if its that big of a distraction. The back ground is a WIP though. Anyhow thanks for the comments.

It's your decision what to use for it. But you asked for advice, so I made my opinion. On the pictures you linked I can't see any highlights that look like the one on your drawing. But you know what you do and how.

no prob thanks for all the support man. I didn't mean to argue I was just trying to get my bearings. Thanks again...I'm having trouble with the layers trying to create a back ground and a sky.

Utao In reply to Zaciroth [2007-02-18 20:42:35 +0000 UTC]

I don't know how to do that. You should make a coloring with many layers, if you do that it cant be a problem to make a background layer. But if you havent done any layers yet, its almost impossible or at least hard work to add a background.

Zaciroth In reply to Utao [2007-02-18 20:47:49 +0000 UTC]

no they are all on layer. I just added the back ground as a another layer and made the rest more visable. Yeah I had about 20 layers in the pic. I'm uploading the new one now. Thanks for the help.

Is the type of material. Maybe I was thinking Nylon. If its that detracking I can remove the shines. But I think It looks more sexy as a shiny leathery surface. The back ground is what is wip. Thanks for the ideas though.
