History:

Hyperion is biggest multi-mission ship ever built by Starfleet. Originally it was developed to be next great ship after Galaxy and Sovereign as well to counter Dominion dreadnoughts. However war ended before the ship could be completed. Starfleet command believed that with war's end there was no need for such large and expensive ship, but Admiral Victor Murdock insist on ships completion. Ship was launched in late 2377 but due large amount of problems that plagued the ship it was not commissioned into active service till mid of 2379. Ship carried the best weapons and defenses, large amount of exploration equipment, labs..., as well large amount of support crafts and fighters. Over the next few years Hyperion performed so well that several other ships were ordered.

While very few in numbers, each ship worth as small fleet and they often served as flagships of the fleets. At least one ships participates in Odonan war. While Hyperion is powerful ship it will never be built in large numbers, because of its size and costs and because of so many other much cheaper but equally efficent ships. However it existance is proof to others that Starfleet is capable to built massive and powerful ship if needs to.
