I do think that this is quite an awesome idea. It's feels like it comes from an alternate universe, where humans chose a different route to take. Today (and in our current universe, hehe) it would take quite a bit of getting used to, due to the completely flipped layout.
It's very creative, and it has been designed very well.

exactly. But the thing is that we get used to new layouts faster than we believe we can.
Screens are wider horizontally and we need to design interfaces that use it like that.

That's also true - I find myself doing it all the time. I actually put it into practice at work. I'm constantly moving the task bar to another side of the screen. Though, with Win8, that darn start button is always on the bottom left. Which I could move that too.
I agree with that - designers should always make the best use of screen estate. The reason I like your concept is because wide-screens are really designed to add extra horizontal space. And so, we find ourselves with all the extra white-space in the explorer area. Having that 'toolbox', as I like to call it, on the right really does make good use of that space.

Too good. I got an idea.
Why don't you make a kit?
It will transform Windows 8 into this look.
You will have a:
1.- Program which disables original explorer and enables this one, it can be enabled/disabled
2.- a skin
3.- a icon pack
4.- metro background changing program
5.- metro icon changing program
6. ???
7. profit!

Hm, OK. You should consider learning C++ and C# and those C languages...I think one of them is the programming language where Windows was made from (I heard?).

Damn!
This Looks fucking sexy!
I would like to see how you continue this design and how you think Metro could be more improved.
On the other Hand I would appreciate if someone could do a third Party Explorer of this.
Maybe we could put together some ideas and design our own os.

Needs to incorporate aero, this has a Ubuntu look to it and that's not good. Would need some extra thought when dealing with existing windows feature like windows snap, what happens when the side that expands in snapped in place?
But it looks really nice, would look alot better if all the gray was Aero.

Well, I bet, that's the point of this. I personally hate Aero. It just makes everything look fucking messy.

Everyone has their own opinions I would not want to use Windows without Aero. Anyway's nice concept.
