I think this would be a cool subspecies of gryphon. It's like a cross between phoenix and gryphon or something.

Pretty. Although I think the anatomy is a bit.. off? I don't see any forelegs, so to me it looks like an owl with an elongated body.
I don't think so. I've seen quite a few owl griffins just here on DA.
