Creepy/Monstrous unicorns seem to be a pretty rare occurrence in fantasy artwork. Kinda sad considering their canon.

what's in the canon? I haven't really read up. I just wanted to design something a little different.

According to European lore, the unicorn could only be approached by someone with a pure heart, like the stereotypical fairy tale maiden. If approached by someone with an impure heart they would either run or kill the person. They had crazy magical and healing  powers and were slightly smaller than elephants. Historically it is believed they are a romanticised descriptions of giant, one horned rhinos. The Asian variety , called "Qilin" or some variation thereof, were very similar and considered some of the most powerful creatures in creation. Some believe they were misidentifications of giraffes.
In both mythologies, they were good creatures that punished the wicked and rewarded the good and were associated with deities and the divine.
I always liked monstrous unicorns because something of divine origin sent to kill you for being wicked would probably no look very friendly.
