Whew..finally finished. This one started innocently-enough, but snowballed into a monster that threatened to eat my head. ^^This is a cover pic for a Slayers fanfiction called "Only Stone On The Outside," a near-epic fic by the skilled author, Dreamsinger.
Though a Z/A-centric story, there is plenty of L/G in it too, and you get to see so much character development and wonderful plot interaction that it's quite a rollercoaster ride. ^_^ Dreamsinger has come up with a neat explanation for Amelia's ward bracelets, and is hinted in this picture.

It's always sad to see a good fic unfinished.
There's one titled "Gypsy Moon" and it's really good. I'm inspired to draw something for that fic but alas the author just suddenly stopped writing.

Ah, I do believe I know that author as well; "Pairaka," yes? I know she did a fic of that title, and that's where that sketch of Zel and Amelia dancing in Gypsy garb in my gallery came from.

Wow! I've read the story, and I have to say, this piece captures all of the high emotion that runs throught it perfectly. I really like the realistic style you used for Zelgadis, and how dark the piece is. I love it, one of the most beautiful Slayers fanarts I've seen. Shiran looks great too!

Heehee...I suppose it could be pretty easy to miss...sad thing is, gamma settings are different for so many different peoples' displays, and since I use a Mac, it's more set for display, not printing, so the gamma on my computer is lighter than a lot of PC users. I've seen this pic on several computers where it's so dark, you can hardly see anything at all. O.o It's a risk I always take when I do pics like that, but I can't resist, because as you've noticed, I LOVE playing with light. ^____^

O_O How did I not see this pic before?! It's simply amazing! It's just...wow. As always, I am floored by your extreme talent for art.
And, in a semi-change of subject, I finally got to actually WATCH Slayers and now I know who all these characters are! lol What a fantastic show! I don't think I've laughed so hard at an anime in a long time. I'm only mid-way through Slayers Next (which will be remedied shortly), but my favorite episode so far has to be when Lina and Amelia are dressed up like Sailor Senshi or whatever and Zel is behind them mimicking all the motions and singing that *rediculous* "spell"... *cracks up just thinking about it*. Zel, btw, is an extremely cool character, and I understand why you like him so much. Then again, I think Gourry is pretty cute, too. And Lina is just awesome. lol
Oh! One final thing that I want to ask. Do you happen to know who did the voice for Lina? 'Cause she sounds to me an awful lot like the same person who voiced Ranma's girl half and it's driving me nuts trying to figure out if I'm right or not. lol If you (or anyone else for that matter) could tell me I'd be very much obliged.
Anyway! Again, fantastic piece of art and I definitely have to read the story that goes with it. Slayers fanfic is sadly lacking, at least from the few I've been able to dig up. If this fic can inspire such an awesome work from you then I know it must be good. ^_^

*CACKLE* Yaaay, Slayers, Slayers! It is always a good thing when people watch that show and like it. ^_^ That show was pretty much responsible for my appearance on the web, and as a result has allowed me to meet so many wonderful and amazing people that I probably would have never met otherwise.
In my opinion, Slayers NEXT is the best of the three seasons, though I still love them all. And Gourry is a big love-love...he's such a cool character, as well as Lina...heck I love them all. ^_^ Have you met Xelloss yet? *cackle* I like him muchly too.
Though I must say that Zelly-poo is still one of my fave characters of that series, with Amelia a close second. *grin*
Hee...as far as Lina's VA goes, Lisa Ortiz is her American voice, and Megumi Hayashibara is her Japanese voice. In my opinion, the american-speaking diologue is ANNOYING AS HELL, and that goes for every character. But I digress...^^

Beautiful piece! Gorgeously drawn (especially the expressions, Zel's particularly). The dramatic lighting makes the picture. ^^ The coloring style is spiffy, I might add o_o How did you do it? The scratch-like lines and all, I mean. It gives the picture such nice texture.

I'm so glad you like it! *happy Zanne* I had mixed feelings about this picture when it was done, and of course my mind will try and pick anything I've done, savagely apart.
Hee, I'm glad you like my coloring style; it's reminiscent of my painting technique in school. The texture is from using the oil paint category, then selecting the "fine feathering oil" brush. I usually kept the brush size fairly small (3 - 8 pixels), and then basically sketched the paint on in layers; the dark background making the brush strokes that much more apparent. On Zel I used 100% opacity, for Amelia, 23%, and on Lina and Gourry, 19%.
*laughs* Ironic thing is, that lighting on the ward bracelet there was almost left out, because my brain had done a momentary stall, and I couldn't figure out how to properly mask the area so it would only show through Zel's fingers and not consume them completely. ^^ Luckily my subconscience came up, smacked me upside the head and pointed it out. I'm glad it came out well. ^^

This is closer to how I was painting in college, the chiaroscuro and deep shadows and lights...it's something I've almost forgotten, and is something I would like to rediscover. I started realizing it as I was working on Zel's face, and it just sort of took over the picture. *grin*
