I always draw my unicorns with their horns on that level though. Lower horns are way more aesthetic

You can argue it's just your style if you want... but when several people look at it and see a technical flaw, running from that will not help you become a better artist.

You can draw a horn "low" as you said, without making it appear to be coming out of the side of her head. Of myself and 2 others I showed this to, 3 people thought the horn was coming out of the side of her head. That's a technical error. Keep her horn low, but correct it so it looks like it comes from the center of her head at the correct angle... and this would be lovely.

You can easily see the root is there, unless you become the victim of an optical illusion. Her forelock is just on the horn's way. I'm not "running" from anything, criticism is a tool of improvement and I did admit the horn is not high enough to be show-accurate but like I said I like it better this way. I think this has just been a misunderstanding.

I see where the base of her horn is, but the conical structure is not in correct perspective.
The horn's basic shape is a cone. The cone is not angled properly in perspective.
This is what's making it look like her horn comes out of the side of her head.

It's nothing about how high it is, and it's not really about show-accurate either. It's just about the illusion it creates due to missed perspective. Don't be upset. Perspective is HARD. I've taken a whole class at one college and a module in another class at another college on Perspective and I still struggle with it. I will probably still struggle with it after this college's full Perspective class too. It is just a very hard thing to learn.

That said... that's definitely what's making that horn look off. Work on the perspective on your cone shapes. That'd help with your horns.

Perspective is evil and difficult.
Studying a cone and trying to just draw that will help.
Look at my gallery folder "Traditional" if you want to see some of the kinds of exercises that are given to art students just for practice. >_< Especially the newest half of things there because they're from a GOOD school.


Seriously, best of luck with learning more, brony. Your work is truly beautiful so far. Hammering out details like this will make you stellar.
