Description i really like how these shots turned out, and i'm getting really inspired to try to shoot as much as possible. i would do a 365 project, but i can't ever choose just one shot from a shoot!

anyway, the weather was crazy... cold and sopping mud, then the sun came out AND it started snowing. (which you'll see in some later shots.) i took half these with the tripod and timer, then Josh showed up and helped me out in the end. <3

I don't mean to imply that you don't usually look beautiful in your pictures, but you're absolutely ridiculously beautiful in this one. I really love how your hair blends in with the field as well.

While I dislike the use of gauzy light, which draws attention to itself in a cliche way, this portrait is lovely... thanks to the model.

lol, how could anyone dislike light? it's what makes a photo!
but thanks.

RedShuttleworth In reply to Zaratops [2011-04-07 05:57:35 +0000 UTC]

Gauzy light does not make a photograph. Gauzy light is done by design. And in film and theatre and TV, directors and writers and actors rapidly learn that light designers are problematic... and the moment they used the word "mood" one should spell it backwards to find out what designers provide. That said, I remain impressed with "black bird."

I'm not sure what "gauzy light" means, actually...

Although, I must bring up that light is actually what you need to make a photograph or movie. Without it you could not capture the scientific process of creating a negative, etc. So working with light is what you're supposed to do, whether scientifically or in a atmospheric way.

It's most likely the really short DOF that's giving the image a soft focus feel that he doesn't like. Personally, I think it makes this photo. Light and contrast are well balanced, making for an excellent image!

lol, i guess it's a matter of taste. it's just funny, cause light is really what i care about most in a photo. i never even imagined that someone could think it's cliche...
and thank you. (:

You're welcome. The type of light is a matter of taste. If you've looked at my limited photos, You might see some of my troubles with light. The photos aren't really bad, just not quite what I was hoping for.

I always say that one learns to work with light, etc. Having a good lens always helps too.

Light is everything, but a GOOD lens is every bit important.
