I like to think that the HEV was made as part of an agreement to get military funding and Gordan just had to test it out because he was the new guy.

It's DOCTOR Freeman. Didn't you read his absurdly long-titled paper on portals? Β Also, Freeman has Barney beat. He'll use the vents!Β

Well, in Half-Life: Opposing Force training course (aka the Boot Camp) they make you stand in front of a rifle and fire at you to show you how "you're not dead!" at the cost of some of the power vest's energy.

The suit works great! And it extends to the head by default! Which is a good thing, since it's completely and utterly unprotected.
Unless his glasses are amazing glasses...

Not all of it, only some of it from HL2 is derived from Xen science.

Obviously I was extremely sleepy when i wrote that, sorry. XD Translation:
Every day things like machineguns and houses and television sets aren't xen technology. That is the obvious statement of the year.
But such statements as 'not all tech is xen-based, just some of it' is nitpicking and going far from my original point. So care to reply to my actual point instead of nitpicking? lol

Hey, if they had made the people at aperture science go through this sort of hazard training, the story might've gone quite differently.

Poor Chell, she's not even technically an employee! A hazard suit might have helped a little with the nerve gas though.

I can think of a few situations in portal where the hazard suit would have been helpful.
I wonder if it's asbestos-proof.
