so like-
in a mercyplates timeline you kill papyrus, sans fight happens in waterfall in the next room after fighting shyren, gaster gets pissed cause you killed his kids, and because you doomed the skeleton species entirely,

Is this if Gaster would be alive? And he during the genocide will now fight with the man (Frisk / Chara)

of course its more creepy. sans is a tiny little smiling skeleton, and gaster is a tall, powerful, mean bastard hellbent on killing every human on earth

If Gaster had ended up with a female and a male skeleton instead of two males, could he have rebuilt the skeleton race?

If that were his intent he would probably use "whatever means necessary."
and he would probably tell them that they weren't related

I think he ended up with two males because he made sans and paps using his own genetic structure, including one X chromosome and one Y chromosome, so, while this is an AU where anything can happen, in this specific case I don't think it was possible for him to have created a female skeleton, but if he could have, then yes, it would be possible to re-create the skeleton species, assuming they could survive the long run of defects in their genetic structure due to inbreeding

Not to support incest, but that would be assuming that monster genetics are the same as human genetics. In this specific case, I don’t think they are. Think about it…if monster genetics were like human genetics, both Sans and Papyrus would look like a younger Gaster. Which they don’t. They look very different between Gaster and between themselves. So, while still morally wrong, I don’t actually think that an entire species rebuilt by a brother/sister skeleton pair would be genetically unsustainable.
Still gross, but not disastrous.

I see your point, and while the idea that monster's have a completely different genetic make up than humans, which is extremely plausible from the idea that monster look nothing like humans and are a completely different species, there is a flaw in your response. Inbreeding doesn't refer to humans in particular, it can be for any species. By the fact that monster's don't look the same as each other, we can infer that monsters have some sort of DNA, or something similar that dictates their abilities and appearance, for instance sans being much shorter than Papyrus. And with a genetic make up, there is room for error, aka mutations or disorders. Inbreeding causes defects in the genetic structure because the two participants of inbreeding have a higher chance of creating a homozygous zygote, which has two recessive alleles for a gene, resulting in a higher chance for defects. Of course, there is always the chance that monster's don't follow the same principles of Darwinian evolution, or that my knowledge on inbreeding is incorrect, but this was my take on it.

You make a valuable point. However, just how much inbreeding affects a species can vary widely from species to species. Mice, for example, can be inbred for as many as twenty generations before it has any significant effect on individuals. And it would only take two or three generations before individuals could pair off with cousins rather than siblings. While this still sounds bad, the fact is that children born from first cousins aren’t at any significant risk for defects compared to children born from non-related individuals. Add some more generations, and you’ll eventually have a healthy, diverse skeleton population.
Again, all this is still VERY morally questionable, but it could theoretically work.

You're right, it does change from species to species. The question now is how it affects skeletons. If it affects skeles in the same way it affects mice or many other species, then you got yourself a morally ambiguous skeleton population!

Well, they are direct descendants of GASTER. It’s in their…whatever the monster equivalent of DNA is.
