Sans testing out that book he found ! Little does Papyrus know what he's in for over time.
They took Gaster out on a nice picnic to try and break the news to him gently but there really wasn't any way he was going to take it well.
In the Pacifist epilogue, if you talk to Gerson, he tells you that Boss Monsters are the strongest type of monster and are basically immortal. When they have a child, their SOUL energy flows into them causing them to grow as their parents age. When the child dies, the Boss Monster stops aging again. So there you go.

Yeah but they said it meant giving up their immortality. So for Gaster it's not about attention being taken away, it's about friends dying on him. He's afraid to lose those closest to him. And if they have a child that automatically means he's going to lose them

Edamame is a type of bean dish thing, using soybeans. The joke asks "what beans do moms like?" and the pun is changing the 'mam' in 'edamame' to 'mom'. Hope that cleared it up.
