i get it, papyrus, and sometimes the wrong words just slip out of our mouths. it would be great if we all had to write down what we were going to say before we said it, and if something looked bad, we could cross it out.

This kinda reminded me the time when I accidentally said something mean without realizing that.
I was talking to my dad normal and then I said something very disrespectful...he then yelled at me and took my phone away and then I asked him what did I do. All he responds is you know what you said.
I was so confused on what I said I tried so hard to remember what I said and that’s when I lost.
I started to lose my mind on just trying to remember what I said...I became very quiet after that day...heck I barley talk to him when I talk about school, internet anything really...he doesn’t remember anything about that but, I still do.

It's actually pretty heart breaking the whole situation. I mean, it looks from the outside to just be a brotherly spat but in reality, it's kinda the conformation of Sans most inferiority complex. He's not good enough. Not even to the person he loves most.

I really get Papyrus here. I really do.
Sans feels in his soul that he wasn't a really good brother to him before. Wether he was or not, it doesn't matter, he just feels that way. So he overcompensates by complimenting Papyrus constantly and at every turn. Papyrus isn't as dumb as people think, and a lot of these compliments ring so hallow. Whether Sans means to or not, non-stop compliments can just be as harmful as neglect. It makes the person on the receiving end not believe them.
And for Sans, Papyrus is his whole world. Up to this point, they needed no one but eachother. It must really break him that his brother's world is expanding and he thinks he's not needed anymore. He's needed more than he realizes and their issues clash so poorly at times.
Sans will fall down without Papyrus's pushing, and Papyrus will stumble blindly without someone to lean on.
