Sometimes I feel she kinda borderlines the Mary Sue character trope, like, Ryuko will get incredibly powerful just by sheer will because of her life fiber deus ex machina powers, meanwhile, this is not the case for anyone else, who can't get any more powerful, like Satsuki, the Elite Four, Tsumugu (I REALLY liked that guy and thought he would make Ryuko's male counterpart) and the such.
Also, her character is extremely stereotyped as she sounds and acts like any generic tomboy anime girl, you could change Ryuko into a dude at any moment, and "he" would act just the exact same as always.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean the main character should be generic AF, like, in comparison, I've been watching Food Wars, it's an anime about cooking, but it's really shonen style, and the main character, Soma, at first I thought he was another generic shonen protagonist, since he looks like a red-haired Naruto, but not much later on you find out that his personality is anything but generic, as he doesn't get better just out of sheer will or a new transformation nor anything like that, you can actually see him researching, either by studying or asking his senior classmates, in comparison, Ryuko is generic AF, I practically like ALL of the other characters (including Senketsu) in Kill La Kill, since they have more fun and original personalities, anyway, that's just my opinion, though

Again what do really expect from Shonen? lol Its almost always generic with a few exceptions of course. But I see what you mean. You also gotta take into account that its targeted demographic was for 17+ because of all the ecchi and nudity.

I feel like i should add little of Sushio's style to my own and what may come out of it. I love how draw the characters.
